I'm a previous STH who travels frequently for these games.
AS others have said, so much of this depends on your needs, plans, and budget. Getting to the venues isn't a problem, as long as you don't wait until the last hour or two before the game. Light rail, bus, taxi, Uber can all get you close. After the game is another matter entirely. All forms of transportation will be PACKED to the gills, and traffic will be at a stand still.
Assuming a hotel stay from the 8th through the 10th (pricing quoted is for both nights, not per night, as the difference in cost between the 8th and the 9th is significant)...
IF escaping the crowds at the end of the game is high on your priorities, then the
Silver Cloud Stadium or the
Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Downtown Pioneer Square are your best bets. 2 nights with 2 beds is going to set you back $1,400 plus, with taxes at the Silver Cloud, and $1,556 plus at the Embassy Suites. Silver Cloud is directly between the stadiums, within a block of both entrances, and Embassy Suites is at the North end of Lumen field. You can get reasonably close with the light rail, but it's a 3-4 block walk.
If that isn't in your budget, then a downtown hotel that is somewhat walking distance, would be my second suggestion. I like the
Crowne Plaza Seattle Downtown. It is 1.1 mile from the stadium, and takes about 20-30 min to walk to after the game. It's a block from the Light Rail Station. Two nights with two beds would start at $636.72 after taxes etc.
If you decide to stay elsewhere, and commute to the games, I highly recommend finding a quiet place to degas after the game, and start your commute back to your hotel after the traffic has cleared. I will usually make my way to the
Fairmont Olympic lounge. It's about a mile from the stadium, and doesn't usually have the same crowds that most of the downtown establishments will after the game.
If you decide to drive to the game, I highly recommend reserving a spot with an app, like
SpotHero, and parking at the garage on 800 5th Avenue. It's one of the cheaper ones, and has great access to I-5 and I-90.
If you want to stay away from the stadium, and commute via public transit, just pay attention to the schedules. If you wait for the crowds to disperse, you may find that your planned route has ended for the night. Lots of great options that are close to the light rail. The crowd is slightly better if you go north, rather than going back toward the airport, but this is rapidly changing.
