For the last several years, I’ve had an ongoing argument with a friend of mine who is a Steeler fan regarding field turf versus grass fields and their safety records. I’ve been telling him that the grass fields so often are just a disaster when they are wet and also many times in poor condition with divots coming up. His response is, they are much safer than field turf and even the players say it as well. With this said, I found the article above from the national Institute of health that puts to rest the argument as their findings show virtually no difference in severe lower leg injuries in grass versus turf fields. It came out that the reason why there seems to be more incidents is because many more games have been played on field turf versus grass hence why there are more incidents but not by percent. It’s funny because he’s still argues with me over this, but this is pure fact.
