I’ll be 💯 % honest.

On a personal level, I’m not a fan of the handful of members we have that constantly post tweets that are only slightly relevant to the Seahawks. Especially the ones that are only somebody’s opinion (regardless of who tweeted it).

We have drifted afar from the premise that “opinions” are NOT “fact”

I believe if a tweet is relevant to a topic already posted, it’s perfectly reasonable to repost it.

Starting a thread based on a tweet someone ran across?
Not so much.

Don’t get me twisted here, I’m not trying to stifle legitimate discussion.
I have an interest in getting us back to a point where the discussion is actually legitimate and verifiable.

“Breaking News”?
Absolutely.
We have a history of being able to catch it here before most places, but let’s get back to actual “news” that is legitimate and accurate.

I myself have started random silly threads for the sake of conversation, and I don’t see a problem with that, but let’s label things appropriately.

Let’s not allow BS posts for the sake of clicks or building post count is my personal opinion

ETA
This is nothing more than my personal opinion.

Please feel free to continue posting your opinions.
Your voice carries the same weight as mine.

Not so much.
So does that mean I shouldn't post threads that consist of Seahawks players having a good time, joking around, or being trolled or whatever then?

I mean I just post the tweet and let people comment if they want.

If that's a waste of time, then my bad.

First and foremost, this isn’t about what you can and can’t do.

It’s an opportunity to voice your opinion.

Please go back and read the posts here word for word, see and understand what has and has not been said.

Fake news is absolutely not the same thing as entertaining rumors and speculation. Fake news is saying someone is dead, traded, IR or whatever without any supporting evidence.

OTOH, denying discussion of rumors and speculation as a rule would effectively shut down draft and trade talk. Even Mike Florio site on nbcsports.com invites users to literally click for “news and rumors.” He reported today that a player had died, which is news. He is reporting on places Kyler might go, which is speculation. Or are we not allowed to speculate where Kyler might be traded until official word from one or the other side?

See, the latter is not fake news by definition as said news has not happened. It’s rumors and speculation that they even want to shop him technically but that hasn’t stopped most mainstream writers from speculating where he will go next.

Have you read the thread?

Nobody that I’m aware is saying that rumors, speculation, or even some fake news should not be allowed.

So far the consensus is, that it should be stated clearly in the title, and that links/sources should be put in the post.

It’s actually how things were here for many years, we’ve simply gotten lax.

“I heard” was forbidden without a link to or the source revealed.

Click bait and 💩 posts all stink and most of us smell them a mile away.

This poll is listed as being about fake news in its title header with a subhead question about rumors and speculation.

The latter is not a category of the former. It would be fake news to assert that Russell Wilson has become the qb3 when he has not, yet it’s perfectly fine to predict that Russ may well end the season that way.

Thats what made the poll confusing. It really is two, and they couldn’t be more diametric.

I voted “yes.” I’d rather come to my own conclusions about the relevancy of shared material. I don’t feel I need mods sanitizing content.

Being said, I do think community standards are worthwhile. Share a link or source, or clearly articulate its speculation.
And we don’t want to be sanitizing or censoring.

We also don’t want FAKE/or speculative posts that everyone knows are bad.
Then the next 10 posts are people telling the OP how stupid they are.

We have fun with some what if, or comical posts for sure. BUT for decades we were the go-to location from all over to find out in one place what was going on with the Seahawks. We had news with valid links to confirm the story being talked about. Our fans and other teams' fans came here to see what was going on with us.

With the AI onslaught of fake everything being generated, the amount of wish we were real writers and making up shit to get clicks going on all over, having a real place to get valid information may bring us back to a place we were respected and popular for.

It also brought a type of membership that would grow and have a knowledgeable and informative take on things, posters learned and shared with each other. Yes, we had arguments of sorts, discussion can get heated, but as with any family we have our occasional disfunction as well.

I don't think AI / fake news needs to be blocked, just clearly identified so everyone knows. I realize this is extra work for the admins - if that's not palatable, then block/delete anything unverified. Hell, just tagging almost all fake/AI stuff with [Humor] would be amusing.

Technology exists to recreate videos from still photos already. I’ve been fooled about what is and isn’t ai myself. Ai is already submitting news and sports articles by itself, ChatGPT is reportedly being people’s new therapist and Elon is saying I can submit a picture of my dead dad into a video.

I'm fully aware, but there's entertainment to be had, and this is a forum for a pro sports team on the Internet. Allowing such content but making sure people don't "fall for it" is a better outcome than blocking it all, in my opinion.

I think the future will demand something that can be easily discerned when it comes to the AI impersonating real life stuff. To many take what they see as truth and factual even in this day and age. You know like red eyes on fake images just as a example or like a pack of smokes that states this is not a real circumstance.

People are gullible and someone will exploit things for money if it hasn't already started. It's the way things work anymore. Trust nothing until you validate it, sometimes twice.

I’m referring on how we ascertain something is fake.

Take this, for example.

Mlfootball is a mainstream account that’s been around a while, but how would one have ascertained that this video is or isn’t fake or staged? Adding a caveat like “I can’t guarantee that this viral video is real, but it’s hilarious” would have provided cya while casting doubt as to this video’s veracity.

A few days after I posted that, the Colts’ account again retweeted parts of said video interspersed with Sauce Gardner signing jerseys for the kids whose names he mentioned as the colts had been in touch with the family. The video was real.

At the risk of being given a vacation from the forum, I'm going to point out that most people have been falling for fake news their whole lives in the form of religious beliefs. It's not a new phenomenon.

that video was clearly authentic and not ai, fake or staged. Your reaching pretty far to "prove" your "Argument" or "point". And this thread isn't about what YOU define as what. Its a thread to gauge and let us know as admins and mods what clearly needs to change for what is and isn't allowed via links. Also educating yourself on what to look for closely will help you make an infomed decision if something is real or not. Most current ai videos that people keep falling for are made by Sora. And they're blurring out the Soro logo typicall top left or mid right. and if they're not visible theres slight distortions where its been heavily filtered out or cropped entirely. If theres no sora logo, hands, fingers, hair .. extra appendages with nothing attached (hand on shoulder no body). AI is far from perfect but knowing a starting point of what or where to look will help you a lot.

As for BS clickbait articles, Twitter/X links, those won't be allowed. They weren't previously before and shouldn't be now. As for "speculation", "rumors" posts... well if its a rumor thats just to generate clicks or views ie. "Chat sports" youtube then use your judgement if its bs and dung is being flung to see what sticks. We could see if ownership if the admins cannot, can add the ability to add tags to forum posts i.e. "Speculation", "Trade", "Rumor", "News" so titles stay simple but then the posts have some tag to show users what it might be.

You are right about the ai, but to me it was not clear that this video was not at least staged. The house couldn’t have been cleaner if it was realtor staged. There is no clutter anywhere, even with two young boys and two large dogs. In the wake of these discussions, this video instantly came to mind as potentially the type of content that I believed the admins would want caveated, an apparently wrong assumption.

Next paragraph starts with a prohibition on “bs clickbait articles, Twitter posts, those won’t be allowed.” Half the Bay Area would say that’s what grant cohn is due to his wild takes on things, likely gotten from his dad, whom I worked with at the Chronicle. Lowell was bs clickbaiting with wild takes and speculation 30 years before the term was invented. I’m not trying to be intentionally difficult, but we need more guidance than “bs clickbait” which is subjective.

Can

We need more guidance?

I’m fairly certain almost everyone understands what we’re talking about.

Again, if you label / title your post appropriately everyone will understand what you want to discuss.

Fake news/AI for the fun of it is fine. Simply make it clear in your title what it is, and offer some of your own thoughts.

Rumors or speculation is fine, simply acknowledge that in your title, and contribute to the conversation you started.

Reposted tweets are fine, but offer some context and define what you want to discuss.

Nobody wants to click on a tweet and try to figure out what your angle is.
Nobody wants to provide clicks to you or the originator for something they have absolutely no interest in.
If you toss up some random tweet with absolutely no context, that in itself is “clickbait”.

This isn’t rocket science or brain surgery.

“SEAHAWKS SUFFER TRAGEDY”

You click the link/tweet only to find out that a shrub at VMACK got run over by a golf cart.

=clickbait.

Ignore rumor and speculation. There will be time to think about it and talk about it after it happens. This applies to sports, politics, and daily life. It is best for your mental health.
