Just got around to listening to this:
Skip Bayless, Cari Champion, Danny Kanell (in for Stephen A Smith), and guest star Herm Edwards discuss Patrick Peterson's contract and the best CB in the leauge
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_rCZj2XPwo
Starts at about 22:50
Among some highlights of questions asked to Herm Edwards:
About CBs:
* Are they worth it? All these guys are worth it. Considering it is a QB driven league with elite receivers this is now one of the most challenging positions to play.
* When Herm played CB (1970's/80s), CB was second lowest paid position. Highest paid was Mel Blount $125K. Herm was paid $25K
* CBs play against two players: QB and receiver, not just one player which makes it a difficult position
* Of course he's the highest paid because he was the latest one paid. The latest one will get the most
About Peterson and Sherman
* Patrick Peterson is the more athletically gifted, best hand-eye coordination coming out of college since Deion Sanders
* Patrick Peterson has lazy fundamentals and relies on his athletic gifts too much. Lazy hands and lazy eyes
* While relying on athletic ability may have worked earlier in his career, at this level this is why Peterson will also get beat for touchdowns 7 or 8 times a year, too many for a top level CB
* If Peterson worked on his technique, he would definitely be potential HOF guy
* Asked who is the top CB, Herm Edwards says Sherman. Besides everything else, he makes big plays in big moments (implies also he is complete package when compared to Peterson).
* When asked about the Seahawks defensive system possibly making it easier for Sherman to play CB, Herm implies he doesn't doubt Sherman would be fine in other systems because of his versatility.
There is a bit more discussion regarding money, natural athletic gifts, height vs length vs speed and how it affects how Sherman and Peterson play CB, and zone vs man coverage when it comes to CB comparisons.
Also, from the way Danny Kanell and Skip Bayless ask their questions, there is definitely either a pro-Peterson bias or anti-Sherman bias. Enjoyed the way Herm Edwards responded to these
And continues to be persistent in his choice of Sherman over Peterson as top CB
