Problem with the Pete era Hawks (and dont know how much of this was John or disconnect between John and Pete) but there were quite a few players who were brought in with one skillset and then made to play another position or technique. And the more you look back and see the occasional friction in disagreement between the players that John wanted and drafted and the way Pete wanted to use them, the more stories like Collier's makes sense, and the more believable it is when a player says thigs like 'i didnt feel like i was wanted'. Well, when the GM really wants a guy and that guy lands on the team, but the coach wasnt high on him, and wants to force him into the role HE wants him for, there's a conflict there within the leadership structure that can result in a player being caught in the middle and feeling EXACTLY the way Collier did.

Imagine the joy of Pete finally gone and a new head coach who obeys.

When I read this my mind instantly went to trying to turn Tre Flowers into a corner cause he had the height / long arms measurables.

3rd round ranking on the consensus big board and something like the 10th rated DL taken in the 1st round. That was a desperate move. A lot of pressure to perform like he was more than he was I imagine. Would we still even be talking about the guy if he went at the top of the 3rd round where he was projected?

I'm not sure what breakout means to you, but he's currently listed as a 3rd stringer on the Cardinals behind 38 year old Calais Campbell and journeyman Justin Jones.

Yup. There were quite a few, including Jamal Adams. Regardless of how things played out during his time here, the dude was known for being who HE was. John wanted to use him like a swiss army knife. Pete insisted he play one spot the way HE wanted him to. John won in getting him here, then lost when his prized win was neutered doing something he wasnt brought here to do.

Agree 100% I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, but yeah, he certainly had dropped players (whether right or wrong) into a scenario where the coach wants something else.

His current bad team signs him to a 1 year deal loaded with incentives with a 750k signing bonus and only 1.5 million guaranteed…NOPE, sounds like a massive pay cut to me. It’s all relative I suppose. When you are used to being a healthy scratch like he was in Seattle , anything is a “breakout” year.

I am in my off-season total lovefest mode with our John Schneider and his decisions. We all know that John and his people peruse .NET, I wanted him to see we have his back, we support everything he did, three Schneider QBs and zero upgrade on OL.

I've always been shy about my opinion on players. I gotta work on it
