It is, but I am a little surprised they caved...not to save money per se, but on principle...
I think they didn't have much of a choice. If most other teams are doing it, it might just be the cost of doing business. Or as someone said you could be the Bengals and stand on principal and in their case, have their pass rush look like a disaster right now.

NIL will have ripple effects on the contracts of drafted players, and fully guaranteed contracts will soon become the norm for the top 4 rounds, potentially for all drafted players eventually.

If you have a year of NCAA eligibility left, with big NIL money asking you to play it out, you might test out the draft, and compare the NFL guarantee to the NIL guarantee.

Was coming to post this as well but for some reason I can’t create new posts… “insufficient privileges” anyone know anything about that?

Anyway - glad this is done extremely early in camp!

I believe it’s 50, but we adopted the rule a while back.
You must achieve a minimum post count before you can start new threads.

This is very common on boards like this, it helps immensely cutting down on spam and trolling posts.
It causes folks to make a bit of investment into our community before they get to “run wild”.

Thank you. I can't believe anyone thinks giving a fully guaranteed contract to anyone in pro football is a good idea. I mean, really? Do any of you guys even watch football?
I tend to agree. It sets president for next year as well. In the NBA 100 million dollar contracts are being bought out just to make players go away...yuck.

So the framing is in place now for the rest of the 2nd rounders to sign. The 49ers guaranteed 88% of Collins' contract (pick #43), and the Seahawks just guaranteed 78% of Arroyo's contract (pick #50). It's the new normal.

I was thinking about the angst and hand wringing about this and came to a conclusion.

Hey, it's $12 million. Less than 5% of the current cap. Not that big of a risk IMO.

Will some college kids make more money than pros?

It reminds of that movie Leatherheads with George Clooney how they first started paying pros football players enough to change the status quo, except flipped around, some college qb might make great money and do amazing in college but do nothing in the nfl

Nice! He's going to have a lot of chances to make splash plays near the LOS with Coby and Julian behind him. The more he and Witherspoon are facing the LOS, the better.

I'm still waiting for my NIL money from .net.

Seriously though .Net has always treated me well. Ty

I marvel that Jalens money is so comparatively small being a 3rd rounder.

We knew we were gonna sign both our second rounders. They are both exciting prospects far beyond average expectations for both. Kinda like MLB slotting. "This player is worth x amount of dollars from our rookie pool." The conracts will all become fully guaranteed growing each subsequent year. Could the owners push for limits on said pool? That would probably be counterproductive for ownership. But the thought of a pushback to fully guaranteed deals should be collectively bargained for the health of the sport. Clearly, there are several veterans we could not have signed with fully guaranteed deals. The incentives are huge and promote healthy competition.
