Trade the whiny bitch to the browns. your not part of the team Earl

For what exactly? If they were giving up the capital it'd be done.... Front load his contract to make him the highest paid safety for a couple of years (only 29), and and worry about it later.

I honestly think that just being named the highest paid safety would be enough for him regardless of the structure of the contract, and I don't think it's an unreasonable request at the moment.

Problem is (and likely why teams wouldn't pony up for him): if another safety gets a better contract next season, how long before he does this again....

Frustrating no matter the outcome

a 7th round draft pick and bag of peanuts

Almonds....2 bags. Please. and a 7th round pic would be a bonus.

Hes worth 1 bag of Almonds at best

Trade him to the Bengals, then he will know what a cheap owner is all about.

Might as well cut him then

nope, get a 7th rounder and all his money off the books.
Silly season has started...........

It's too bad he's doing this. He could have been a legend in our city... I own all 3 of his jerseys, he's my favorite hawk ever... but my guy is throwing his legacy down the drain as one the greatest ever

Getting all of his money off the books is not possible.

His dead money is $1.9M whether he is traded or cut.

If the Hawks hold true to their word AND no team wants to give them what they have set as their minimum draft capital in trade, Earl has only two options... 1) report to the team with his tail tucked between his legs (sometime before week 10), or 2) continue to hold out through all of the 2018 season and most likely never play another down in the NFL.

Either way, he loses.

This really reminds me of the AROD fiasco with the Mariners. I remember him saying it's not about the money prior to the 250 million dollar contract with the Rangers, with Earl I have to take care of my family. Ok Earl.

It’s a very simple issue of risk management.

The Seahawks are unwilling to risk more guaranteed money until they have to. They were already burned by Marshawn Lynch and Kam Chancellor. If they gave Earl an extension now and he got seriously hurt this season, that would be GM malpractice. Being forced to earmark salary cap money for players who are not playing will destroy a team’s ability to be competitive. However, Earl Thomas is incredibly valuable to this defense. He is probably the most important player in Carroll’s eyes, not named Russell or Bobby. They want to extend him, just not before they have to. Most likely, Earl returns to the team by Week 1, they kick the can to next year, franchise Thomas, and then negotiate a long-term extension, assuming he is still healthy and dedicated.

Earl, for his part, is unwilling to risk an injury during training camp and preseason without having more guaranteed money. If he gets hurt this year, he may never see a 3rd contract. He would like to get that contract from the Seahawks, but he doesn’t know if that will happen. He has watched the Seahawks move on from his teammates Sherman and Bennett this off-season. They have inadvirtently sent the message that they don’t want him. If he can’t get that guaranteed money from the Seahawks, then you can bet he is desiring of those guarantees from another team. I don’t like it. I don’t think holding out sends the right message about his dedication to the game and long-term success. But I understand it from his perspective.

Seahawks fans are also managing their risk. For us, it is the risk of disappointment. Seahawks fans are notoriously bitter and sensitive to any whiff that a successful player wants to leave Seattle. Couple that with the fact that the team has recently moved on from Richard Sherman, who is coming off a serious Achilles injury. Thomas is much less replaceable than Sherman. Thomas didn’t rupture an Achilles. He could get a bit slower and still be one of the fastest players on the field. Thomas is much more likely to play well over the next three or four seasons. Reading social media, Thomas is getting a lot of love from other fans, like the Cowboys, and a lot of hate from Seahawks fans. Bottom line, Seahawks fans need to chill.

I cheered on when stars of another team pissed on that team, nothing new there. Wait til that star pissed on their own team, then show me how they chilled.

Again, sorry this is repetitive, I stand by my statement that no GMs, HCs, Owners, are willing to take a risk on Earl's antics. Not that they are not chill, but NO highly paid alphas like to be insulted, especially after paying the dude tens of million, especially knowing Earl's antic will hurt their own job security.

Earl Thomas is one of the very best FS in the league, relative young and pimping his service everywhere desperately.

ZERO taker.

Chill or not, that's fact.

Part of the greatest group of players the franchise has ever known in the LOB and part of the team that won the city its only NFL title. He's already a legend in Seattle and will be in the Ring of Honor.

He’s not a free agent. He only has one year left on his deal. He’s currently holding out for a long-term exension. And the Seahawks would need a LOT in return because Earl Thomas is so valuable to our defense. All of that works against the possibility of a trade.

Read the rest of my post for more.

Because nobody wants a one year wonder and have him sign in Dallas unless it's Dallas.

And Dallas is waiting to fleece us, they know Earl and Richard knows Earl and what they would use him for and how, probably not a lot of learning to be done since Richard would implement a lot of what he does for us. They can wait.

Y'all berated Kam (as did I) when this was going on. Ain't nothing new here. He's the best FS in the League and hasn't lost a step. He should get paid handsomely. I don't know if the Hawks have been talking to his camp (haven't paid much attention just yet) but if not they should.

I understand they want to set a precedent, but they've done this for players in their final year of their contract like Bennett and Marshawn. Kam still had 2 years left on his deal when he held out, and then when he came back, they gave him a very nice extension. Not sure what the FO is trying to do here, but they're gonna make a gigantic mistake if they choose to let Earl just walk or trade him.

Love Kam, Lynch and Bennett as players, from the business side Seahawks took it in the shorts each time due to injury and or retirement. The 5 million Lynch got as a bonus never recovered, and the money Kam gets for his guarantee, Bennett played up to his contract but was hurt as well and didn't perform to what he did prior to the contract.

Fan wise we want them, Business wise not smart.

Earl has been paid handsomely his entire career. He had a solid first round deal as a rookie and then got a great extension to make him the highest paid safety at the time. He still will make big money for a safety this year. Kam at least was underpaid most of his career if you ask me so he had far more reason to holdout. Earl has made big cash all the way along.

According to Earl's agent, we fans are obtuse:

https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/ ... s.amp.html

So it is our fault that Earl pimped himself to the Cowboys while wearing his Seahawks uniform. It is absurd that any of us should be bitter about that. Earl did nothing wrong.

May be, just may be because NO front office in the league is returning the agent's calls; or Earl's pimping. This agent is in between Earl's supernatural ability to see his future as the highest paid FS and the ice cold reality of no response from GMs. Like in between rock and a crystal ball.

Karma could be a bitch.

Correct me if I'm wrong but...According to Earl's agent he would not be a hold out...

He suits up by week 6, or he is traded. I can't see him sitting out the whole year.
