Double bye weeks

After Sundays game against Tennessee, the Seahawks have a short week to prepare for a game at Arizona on Thursday night. After that game they have 11 days to prepare for a Monday nighter at St Louis. This 11 days between games is almost like an extra bye week for the team. After the 11 day stretch, the actual bye week comes at week 12.

Further looking at the schedule shows that the reamaining 10 games after Tenn has teams with a combined 20-29 loss record on the schedule. But that is a bit skewed by the 5-0 Saints and 0-4 Bucs and 0-6 Giants.

It seems like they have been on the road all season long. The two nationally televised games after Tenn are also on the road. If they get through those two games healthy and unscathed, the remaining 8 have 5 at home. The perfect recipe for a surging team heading into the playoffs!

BTW, the 2 remaining 10 AM starts are against teams with a combined 1-10 record.

Cool.

I still hate being the road team on the short week heading into Thursday Night. Road teams have not fared well historically on TNF. I know it's "just" the Cards, but the short week always spooks me...

The eastcoast alliance attempts to bury this team in 10am starts and early road trips will backfire for the second half of the season. Gotta give us 8 at home.

I liked it at first because i live out of the Seahawks market. Now i think it's too little time to prepare.

Not related to TNF discussion, but I wonder why they don't pair up teams for the same bye week. So each team that comes off their bye is playing the other coming off theirs.

Road teams do have issues on thursday night football. But this is what usually causes us issue on the road: distance to opposing stadium and 10am start. Both of these are negated when playing Arizona at night. I think we'll be fine as long as we can neutralize the card's defensive line.

Yes it could be useful in the way of players getting healthy.

Or better yet just give every team the same week off after 8 games played.

I think its unfair one team can have a bye week 4 and another team have it in week 12.

The competition committee in the nfl is a complete joke.

Or better yet...

How about the Seahawks just jump out to a 35-0 first half lead against Tennessee and rest the starters for a half, negating the fact that the next game is in 4 days?

Also, I believed they should have expanded the playoffs since re-alignment to 8 teams . Especially since after 2010.

2nd, give all teams a bye week. Teams can't practice for 5 days, just rest. Only walk-throughs on the weekends, and then they can practice normally for the ensuing week.

3rdly, the 4 division winners make it followed by the 4 next four best records.

1 vs 8. 2 vs 7. 3 vs 6. 4 vs 5.

Seeding is determined by the 4 best records overall.

It would just be a fair way to do it, as it is now teams coasting into the playoffs get more time to rest, but teams going all out to make the playoffs don't get any. Kind of skewed.

In the above scenario if the top seed can't beat the 8th best team in the conference in their own house, its pretty pathetic.

I like this. Additionally, set the trade deadline for the bye week Sunday, so fans have something to follow that week.

Then, remove Thursday night football, except for week 1 and week 9 (a little taste of football after the off season and the bye week ).

And lengthen the effing uprights already...

I'll be the best commissioner.

I like the Thursday night games. We have a shift out at work that has to work Saturdays and Sundays, evenings on Mondays, with Thursdays and Fridays off. Thursday nights are the only time a person working that shift can watch a live NFL game.

I didn't realize the Rams game was a Monday night contest. Works for me as I have a lot of stuff to do in the daytimes so I won't have to interrupt my Sunday afternoons for Seahawk football, at which time everything else has to take a back seat.

If we can win Thursday....and don't anyone say it's "just" the Cards, they're a solid football team that we have a lot of difficulty beating in their house.....then the long break will help us lick some wounds.

Because that would take entirely too much thought and consideration. Man if there is one guy in the league I would love to taze in the nuts, it's the scheduler. (Mike Perriera is still at the top of my taze-in-the-nuts list, but he's not officially in the league any more.)

Oh, and Lord Goddell's precious 18-week schedule? Just add a 2nd bye-week to each team's schedule. The league gets an extra week of revenue, teams get an additional break to get healthy/rested, and the freakin moron-scheduler can do things like schedule TNF games after a bye a lot easier.

Wow, that's a great idea! But why stop at one extra bye? Cut two preseason games and add two byes.

on a selfish note, being out of market, I enjoy the Thursday/MNF games as it guarantees me in being able to watch the 'hawks on reg. cable tv.

I also agree in giving all teams that break at once - week 8!
