Gives you the chance to tie with two FGs and puts you in the driver seat to play for a win instead of tie.

It's just hard to justify (in my book) if you don't have a consistent short yardage run game.

because you have to steal points at some point. and you don't want to wait until it's too late. the defense can't get a stop, so you have to risk stealing it. if it had worked (it did), and the defense got some stops, we wouldn't need an extra possession to win it
