They didn't make much of an attempt to run the ball at all, so I think he trusted Drake. He's not stupid.
If the shoulder was still an issue the Pats were dishonest on their final injury report (shocker) as Maye did not have an injury designation
I know I am bias as a Hawk fan but any suggestion that the injury was a significant part of yesterday is sour grapes imo
This is a really really good point to. And you can see they took a similar approach to this game and went heavy heavy blitzing and route jumpingVrabel and McDaniel knew what they were in for after seeing their MVP candidate pee the bed in the playoffs.
Drake Maye might end up being a great QB, but I thought the most telling (and damning) piece of evidence against him came against the Broncos when a mic'd up moment, Drake was overheard telling McDaniel -paraphrasing, 'this is really hard...', to which McDaniel did his best to reframe his focus and remind him what they had to gain if they could focus over the last minutes of the game and prevail.
Sure, Drake was talking about the weather conditions at the time. But I think it was also the difficulty he was having in doing ANYTHING against a stout Denver D.
McDaniel and Vrabel for certain had a sense that timhis game could turn quickly and likely felt that given their QBs lack of experience and the film he put up in prior weeks, that their best chance of winning was not relying on their own QB to do something incredibly impressive, but forcing our QB to do something terrible.
They knew they had little chance with Maye. He isn't their yet. The talk about them taking advantage of a week schedule was 100% correct.
I said our D would make Drake Maye look like Tony Eason vs the 85 Bears. Not quite but close.Darnold still had his Oblique injury as well, said it didn't affect him, but if he still had the injury then it did except for his injection also. Excuse exorcised.
Maye was a target, Mac knew he was green and threw the blitz at him along with relentless pressure on the two rookie O lineman, Maye was rattled and looking for a place to escape almost as soon as the ball was snapped. After the first quarter he was looking to survive more then who was open.
Are you wondering if Drake was healthy would we have lost? HELL NO!I mean yes we have a great special young defense. But putting that aside..after talking with friends and family one of them mentioned something.
And it’s, Does or did Vrabel kind of already know because of Drake Mayes shoulder being injured that the game was shot so the play calls from McDaniels was more or less to mitigate or focus more on “damage control”.
Drake Maye admitted post game he “couldn’t really feel it and they shot it up pregame” and in Vrabel post game interview even coaches who are holding back for the sake of leadership dont act as detached as Vrabel did. Even the “frosty post game handshake” was off. He’s a former player for the Patriots McDanials has called way better games than this, but I it a bit curious.
Scheme wise it wasn’t like they schemed for Seattles defense or even made adjustments, it was a scheme to try and keep Maye safe and mitigate damage, with a couple deep shots here and there. (If woolen was in the proper spot pre snap, he’d have that batted away properly if not Intercepted)
100% I know this entire thing sounds stupid however.. with Mayes shoulder injury it still leaves one to wonder.
I mean lol as ass whooping is an ass whooping and I’ll take it. But a few friends and family brought this up based on Vrabel.
This!! After the first two series, I think Vrabel definitely knew.Vrabel and McDaniel knew what they were in for after seeing their MVP candidate pee the bed in the playoffs.
