Nobody talking about JSNs fumble? That killed us at our peak momentum. Defense came up with a huge stop you gotta hang on to the ball man and kick a FG at least.
That’s fair …..

It’s just much harder to criticize the one guy that produced every decent offensive play we had (including the reception that put us in a position to win).

I felt his “atta boy” count was much higher than his “oh shit” count, so maybe he unfairly escapes criticism.

But that said, sure, ball security is paramount.

Cooper Kupp is not even an NFL wide receiver right now. Bringing him because he's a hometown kid was a stupid idea. He's just collecting paychecks and laughing all the way to the bank. I don't think he gives a crap about football anymore.
Agree. May as well have re-signed Jerry Rice.

Thought we’d see more from the passing attack, if that was it, it will be a long year. As opponents take away JSN and the team is forced to lean on an uninspiring run attack the O will look inept.

Darnold was’t terrible, but comparing him to the two QBs in the night game was eye opening. There certainly was a huge difference between Allan and Jackson to the weak sauce of Purdy and Darnold.

Imagine though if Darnold had been able to complete that last drive and score instead of dropping the ball? Darnold wasn’t awful but was’t special either.

In the basement at the Alamo.
The Vikings didn't re-sign Darnold for what we saw today. He's a journeyman first round bust like Trubisky. He hasn't been good anywhere he has been. Time to draft someone in Rd 1!
I'm going to give him some time because he's only played maybe 1 or 2 drives since being on this team so there will be rust and tinkering to figure out what's working and could be improved, what almost worked and needs to be tweaked, and what needs to be thrown completely out of the playbook. Lets see where we're at by the bye.

All he needed was one more second from Abe Lucas in keeping Bosa away....JUST ONE.

I know he said in the presser that he was going to his checkdown (which was Walker) but even a completed pass to Walker could've resulted in either a TD or getting even closer to the goal-line for a possible Charbs Power-run TD.

He had plenty of time. That checkdown is open before Walker cuts. He was late on the throw.

I don't think he looked all that bad but maybe I'm crazy. It was one week and the offensive game plan was just weird. He made a couple of nice throws and runs and lets see what happens next week.

Hindsight is hindsight.

Had Abe held Bosa for just one more second, Sam completes the checkdown to Walker and who knows? Walker either runs it in for the go-ahead TD or we're even closer to the goal-line where we could run Charbs right down their f*cking throats...

Walker gets blown up before the first down. First image, ball should have already been out. TD.
Second image, when ball actually would have been thrown -- Walker gets lit up.

It was Twain who said there were three kinds of lies, lies, damned lies, and statistics. Sorry, but there is nobody in their right mind who could say that Darnold outplayed Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love, Lamar Jackson, and more yesterday. I agree that more could have mined from Darnold yesterday than was, but damn.

I hate PFF but I also think some people are jumping on Darnold for obvious reasons based. He wasn't the problem, the offense needs to be better and hopefully Macdonald gets Kubiak on track next week which I think they will.

Well that's how the stats stacked up.

I never understood how PFF worked, though.

All I will say is that PFF is usually the one that basically BURIES Darnold no matter what he does so this was a unexpected surprise to see the opposite.

He would not have gotten lit up but he would've been tackled before getting to the endzone.

In which case, they at least would've been closer to take some more shots in the endzone to win it.

BTW, it's easy to say in the first picture (when it's a still frame with no one moving) that Sam could've thrown the ball but real-time speed just isn't that simple.

This is why being an NFL QB is so damn tough.

I'm watching the video.

He pats the ball, then throws. That pat is what gave time for the fumble. He could have also stepped up in the pocket.

It's hard to be an NFL QB, yes. But Sam Darnold is an NFL QB and needs to be better.
