I'm guessing Darnold met all the financial incentives for his contract. WHEN he wins the. Superbowl, do you think he get's and/or earns a reworked contract for even more money? His chances of doing it again next season will be even greater, we will refine the defense and retool the offense during the draft and after the off season. Thoughts?

Oh that's right, I also forgot.

Sam's contract and that "escape" clause a few days after the SuperBowl.

.....something tells me the Seahawks aren't going to exercise it. 🙃

Think that they’ll rework the contract? You don’t do it for under performance so why do it for over performance?

The Seahawks have a policy of not renegotiating a contract until there is a single year left. I expect them to follow that policy. We've had a (super bowl winning) QB dictate terms to JS before, let's not go there again.

Besides, his salary/bonus/incentives goes from $14.4 million to $36.4 million next year. Still a bargain by NFL standards, I get it. But that final year is not only a potential out for the team, it's a potential out for Darnold. I fully expect that he'll go through 2026 under his current contract but have a significant increase in 2027.

Not quite. He has earned $5mil of a possible $8mil in incentives. Shame we let our foot off the gas in some of these games. He could have swept it easily.

✅4,000 yards (4,048) $500k
✅>100 passer rating (100.8) $500k
✅>65% completions (67.7) $500k
✅Top ten net offensive yds (6th) $500k
✅Playoff berth $500k
✅Divisional win $1mil
✅Conference Champ $1.5mil

❌Over 28 TDs (25) $500k

TBD Super Bowl win $2.5mil

I was looking at contract numbers today. I think we should offer him $53-$55 APY this off season. He is going to be north of $60 if we wait until 2027, and he remains on a similar trajectory.

Success comes in bunches, we need to capitalize & feed off what we have now. Richard Sherman recently said “Seattle getting Darnold at the value they did is like getting a Ferrari for the price of a Honda” (based on how he performed this season) we are going into this offseason with a really nice chunk of cap space & as a fan you should want Seattle to maximize the amount of talent on the team more than you should want to be morally satisfied with paying Sam what he will deserve on his next contract. The true key path to success is to use all that cap space to add more talent for sam & improve all other areas to make his job easier. Just think , paying him more than what’s already agreed aside from incentives does it help the team win more? No. but go and grabbing somebody like George Pickens or linderbaum for oline protection helps Sam be a better quarterback and helps our team win, whereas paying him more helps him more in his life outside of football, but it doesn’t exactly help the team win more does it?

When Marshawn held out, they guaranteed his incentives in his current contract, can't remember what they did with Kam, but their goal was to demonstrate that they do not renegotiate a contract.

John will do right by Sam, and the Seahawks. Remember, every million dollars that goes to 1 player, is a million dollars that cannot be paid to one of the other 52 players.

That's why Tom Brady always took a discount, but IIRC, he also made demands that they invest in a certain player(s). He wanted to influence where that money he wasn't taking went. Kudos to him, because it showed that Tom Brady was more about wins than ego.

Nicely said!! The most successful franchises are full of players that want to win more than anything. Because let’s face it, a player that knows they have the talent and the stats to get paid more, but make the sacrifice to actually take a little less so the team can win as a whole instead of just that players bank account winning, it always comes back to them in the way of opportunities outside of football , endorsements , ect. Brady is a perfect example because look at the guy now.! His endorsements, opportunities and things he does outside of football now pay him more than he will have ever been able to make off his NFL contracts alone. It’s about seeing the bigger picture, it’s about wanting to win more than anything and it’s about putting the team first. I think Seattle is one of the best examples of a franchise that puts the team first at least with this bun. We have right now. This off-season is a perfect opportunity to see if players are more interested in how much they get paid or more interested in winning because I think Seattle is in a great position to really have a great run these next few seasons and anyone that wants to come be a part of it over here in Seattle should take our contract offers that might not be max offers but fair offers with a almost guaranteed chance of victory down the line.

Nah we've got other guys to pay and having that contract at this rate is partly why we are competitive. After next year maybe.

Yeah I wouldn't blame him for wanting to revisit his deal. Making the Superbowl seems like a good reason to do so , let alone winning it.

Do we believe that’s a policy they will stick too, with a 28 yo QB just finding his groove in the nfl? I’d also sign JSN this offseason
