Before this year, McCarthy had three consecutie 12-5 seasons. This year is not on him, it's on the GM, who happens to be Jerry Jones. Do you really fire someone who's had that much success?

The best coach available (under the age of 70) is Mike Vrabel, and he's not taking that job.

How did those playoff appearances work out for McCarthy?

Also, their D tanked the minute Quinn was gone. You really think McCarthy is blameless?

I could totally see Deion getting the job. Former Dallas player with a ring....he'd be the splashy pick which makes it totally in the Dallas wheelhouse.
And wouldn't FOX just love to broadcast any and all the upcoming Whiner/Cowgirls games.

My opinion, fwiw, is that McCarthy is not the best or most innovative coach, but I think he's the best Jerry can get, given the circumstances there.

Also, the D had trouble with Quinn there. What's hurt them more is the loss of some key players and Jerry's failure to replace them and build depth.

Most probably wouldn't, but Jerry would.

Those 12-5 seasons felt like fools gold. I never thought for a moment during them they were contenders or would do anything in the play offs. 49ers and before that the Rams felt like top dogs in the nfc.

Other than emergencies and interim hires teams hire HCs with a view to them being the HC for at least 3 years. Obviously things might not work out that way but for a new staff and franchise philosophy to work teams have to take at least a 3 year approach.

The oldest ever HCs in NFL history are:

1. Romeo Crennel: 73 years, 199 days
2. George Halas: 72, 318 days
3. Marv Levy: 72 years, 139 days
4. Pete Carroll: 72 years, 117 days
5. Bill Belichick: 71 years, 269 days

Information taken from, and all accreditation to:
usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2024/01/10/pete-carroll-and-oldest-nfl-coaches-history/72180519007/

I don't see Carroll or Belichick getting another HC job in the NFL. Maybe they're brought in as GMs, advisors, or sub-HC staff but they're too old to risk a $5B business with.
