McVay is making the late coach Bill Walsh proud. He is trading an aging star a year or two too early when the star still have some trade value, instead of trading one or two years too late when the star lost all trade values.

Maybe John drilled that into his grandson, after all John and Bill work together closely for the entire duration of Bill's HC career.

Watch and learn John Schneider, you should have traded Lockett two if not three years ago.

Way too late to call it anything close to "trading an aging star a year or two too early."
