Does this indicate JS/MM are not just setting up for the '25 season? ... that they're thinking this team can make a deep playoff run this season? I know it's not an either-or/black and white question. I'm sure they're trying to win as much as possible as soon as possible, but you'd do a few things differently if you really think you need a season to put pieces in place and implement a new system.
To me, it sure seemed like there were big enough questions going into camp that it made sense to implement new schemes and identify young talents that fit the system in prep for a future run. Now I think, if Geno, passrush, LBs, iDL and iOL and OT are all improved to somewhere between solid to really good, does that mean it's all on the table to be served up this coming season? Is there really a chance that the holes and weaknesses we all saw 2 months ago are filled in with good-solid-quality talent and not just slightly below average band-aids? Serious question... where are the glaring holes we were expecting? There was a thread a few weeks back that pretty consistently indicated (and I agreed) that the problems were OL and LB. It sounds like the FA LBs are lighting it up in camp and if Fant/Lucas can hold up RT with CWilliams and the current depth inside... well, it doesn't look so scary today. Is anyone else finding it difficult to identify reasons to be pessimistic this season?

This is a great pick up, he can mentor at the very least, took Ungar a couple of seasons of getting a NFL body and learning the ropes also, this way we keep Geno standing, the run game dominant and maybe sign him for a longer deal.
If Connor and Drew R. had serious concerns about his ability to perform due to injury, they would have negotiated something longer term. I think they know that he is going to be back as strong as ever. I sure hope he is.

I love this signing. I think he was the second highest rated run blocker among all lineman when healthy? Lucas healthy, Williams etc this offense should roll

For whatever it's worth, he got the highest grading among our OL from PFF. If he could perform at hid 2023 level, we got a bargain.

He has to play big if he wants another big payday. He’s young and has the track record for excellent play, but the injuries lower his price tag. We got a bargain, and have the flexibility to not be stuck if his knee is an issue.

I honestly thought he would get bigger money. And being a 1-year deal, perfect chance for him to prove he can stay healthy etc. Hell of a player, and this O Line just got a lot better.
He's fully recovered from his left ACL replacement, and this was the right ACL so he's familiar with the rehab process. From someone who's torn them, the replacements are better than the originals if the rehab is done correctly. I think his best years are still to come.

From the reports i've saw from camp it feels like Olu is basically backup quality. Okay filling in but maybe doesn't have the anchor to be a starter.

Olu was a 5th or was it a 6th round pick. We didn't invest a lot if draft capital in him. When he couldn't win the starting role last season, it was a red flag, now, again, we signed a starting center.
Olu may not have it.

We signed that fag before drafting Olu.. The one who kept getting pushed
back.
I know Olu is better than that guy, it was just because he was getting paid big
was the only reason he started over Olu.
I'm not so high on signing a guy with worse knees than Lucas ..Meh
And Williams is only 27. If he lives up to expectations, they'll have first rights on getting him on a long-term deal.
OluOlu had a couple of weeks to step up and show something. It seems he didn't, based on Mcdonald's comments and this signing.

It could not work out. But I’ve got to be privy to the Dolphins by watching Hardknocks and this guy was playing great last season.
If it does work out Seahawks potentially have a top OC leading the line on a decent contract. Sort of like Max Unger 2.0.
And if doesn’t work you get an overpaid OC that can not only help mentor OluOlu but the young OGs as well.
Overall, it’s roll of the dice on a potentially great player that could help transform the run game into a consistently reliable perhaps dominant force. We know Grubb’s offense is explosive off play action and that Geno has thrived the most off a play-action.
When Grubb was signed I remember some being against the move because they thought the Seahawks were getting an air raid pass first offense that typically doesn’t translate successfully to the NFL.
But every move they’ve made from a coaching standpoint especially McDonald’s own coaching roots to a lot of personnel that Seahawks want to not only improve the running offense but dominate with it and that it will be beneficial both to the passing offense and a defense that is built to win the chess match in passing defense when teams are forced to become one dimensional.

You may know Olu to be better than that guy, but Pete, his OC, and OL coach had a different evaluation. Pete was a desperate man last year in a win or get fired situation, and yet, he insisted on starting an inferior guy that Schneider pickup on an one-year contract worth $2.35 million with $1.1 million guaranteed and includes a $650,000 signing bonus.
