Luke Keuchly was wearing one, apparently it restricts the blood flow leaving the brain, causing the brain to swell and fill out the space that the brain would usually slosh around in.

It actually restricts blood flow leaving the brain.

I did notice that his face was awfully red during the game. It reminded me of Matt Hasselbeck's face when the SF LB hit him at the goal line and broke his ribs.

And yes, I'll bet some auto-erotic enthusiasts are buying those for nefarious reasons :3-1:

It's worth noting that the company that makes the band also coauthored and helped fund the study. I'm not a medical researcher but I have a great deal of experience in interpreting data. I am skeptical that anything conclusive was proven in their study and given the conflict of interests I would hope someone will try to replicate the study before they start selling them.

Um, yeah it can. Whether it does anything to reduce concussion risk is certainly up for debate, but altering the blood flow to the brain (both inflow and outflow) is one of the primary ways we alter brain volume during surgery.

All I know is that Keuchly uses it and prior to the neck band, he was "Concussion Prone."

The guys at 710 were discussing it also. One of them found the article on "GizMag," a great website that I also read everyday, but is now called NewAtlas. Not sure why they were referring to it as GizMag yesterday since the name was changed a while back. Possibly because people were call it 'JizzMag." And no, there weren't any pictures scantily clad women in it.

Anyway, there's some reason why some players never, or rarely get concussions (Kam Chancellor), and why others (Wes Welker, Luke Keuchly), are concussion prone. I'm thinking that preventing the brain from sloshing around in the brain bucket might be a great approach.

I saw an interview on Primetime Sports here in Canada with the "inventor" & the theory sounded decent. From what I remember it was acknowledged that it's not going to prevent the really terrible impact concussions but is more for the repeated smaller impacts for linemen & they used the woodpecker analogy.

They talked more about the implications for hockey since it's Canada & they said it was still in the live testing stage.

The problem with that theory is that Keuchly has been wearing the band since the start of the 2017 season and he's still suffered 2 concussions.
