Do you think Mac is a bad defensive coach?
Mac is a good defensive coach but his system is intricate. If you don't have the right safeties or linebackers, your defense is worthless. Players must be able to wear a lot of different hats. Quinn doesn't use Pete's defense anymore, but it's still easier to grasp than MacDonalds. I'm not sure MacDonald's defense would've done well in Washington this year. Especially since Bobby Wagner, while still a good player is a huge liability in coverage.

Another wrinkle to throw in here is his choice of offensive staff. I don't think Jayden Daniels would've done as well underneath Grubb. Kliff Kingsberry has been around the NFL for awhile at this point and has experience with bringing up young QB's.

There were also certainly some teething issues with MacDonald and his inexperienced staff this season. Nobody had any NFL experience at their respective positions on our coaching staff. I think that cost us several games we probably could've won right there.

Dan Quinn on the other hand is a vet that has been around for awhile. He's been here before and he's been around championship teams. He knows what it is to be a pro and he brings experienced staff with him. The one thing I appreciate about Quinn is the offensive staff he hires. Kliff Kingsberry and Shanahan were far and away much better than anything Pete or MacDonald ever hired here.

Now, that is not to say MacDonald won't be as good if not better than Quinn, because he certainly could. For this year though, I'm not surprised that we're not in the playoffs.

Congrats to the Commanders on their win, but you know they're rewinding this clip of Baker giving Wagner the hit stick, multiple times in the film room.
