Unnecessary roughness/aggressive helmet play is now illegal in the Nerf Football League. Two hand touch rules will soon be implemented.

Well, I'm guessing it has to do with lawsuits, and work comp cases from former players. Could be preparation for future lawsuits, so the NFL has ammunition in defending it's self in court. "We have been cracking down". Stuff like this. Maybe it's a way to regain the money it lost in past court cases?!?!

To me, it looked pretty harmless hit by Charbonnet, but the NFL doesn't want to see that stuff any more. It will be quite entertaining to see how the new NFL navigates lawsuits, tackling, and fan expectations. It appears the NFL is in a collision course with two hand touch, but we shall see.

Have you seen the Pro-bowl games? Better yet, when is the last time someone has watched the pro-bowl? Does the pro-bowl mean anything? Might as well just have an award ceremony, the actual pro-bowl game is more fake, than watching the Harlem Globe Trotters.

Wow, that was a little negative, I need to lighten up a little. lol

If the Charbonnet fine is for this play then I can see what the NFL is calling.

Charbonnet leads with the crown of his helmet whilst his arms and hands are down by his waist. Not the worst or most blatant foul i've ever seen, and i'm not surprised it was missed in real time. Josh Jacobs was hit with a $45K for impermissible use of the helmet earlier in the season.

mmmm imo kinda ticky tacky with the fine when ive seen worse... especially when its defenders still hip drop tackling or spearing themselves at the backs of WR's

Absolutely. If I wasn't looking for a foul I wouldn't have seen a foul. The fine is massively excessive in relation to the foul. I'm not a fan of this method of altering behaviour, but from the NFL's perspective lesser fines haven't achieved their objective. I don't know how else the NFL can protect players from such hits.

I’m not sure I’m seeing an aggressive lead with the crown of the helmet. To my old school brain then that just looks like a well executed lead block that takes the defender out of the play - hate that Charbs gets such a big financial hit for it.
I guess that’s just the way the game is going these days 🤢

I saw the video on Montgomery. Wtf??? And Charbonnet got fined. The NFL has become such a joke. Maybe they should just play touch football instead.

Do what? Montgomery protects himself as Witherspoon tries to tackle him. Witherspoon just slips. Neither player leads with their head.
You can take whatever snapshot you like but when you watch the actual play in video it is clear he led with his helmet into Witherspoon. Not a game breaker but if they are gonna call it be even about it.

The last 20 seconds of the video you have posted are clear. Montgomery doesn't lead his head into Witherspoon. Montgomery leans forward. Witherspoon is coming in from a 45 degree angle.

This site has a link with a different tv view of the play:

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/seattle-seahawks/news/nfl-fines-seattle-seahawks-zach-charbonnet-playing-football-lions/d19361c4365e263a6561c990

Just as a follow up here are the NFL's level of fines:

https://operations.nfl.com/inside-football-ops/rules-enforcement/accountability-fines-appeals/

A $45K fine is the level for a 2nd such offense. Potentially further offenses could lead to a suspension. The NFL gave Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James Jr a 1 games suspension for repeated violations in September. I've linked the following mostly for the Jon Runyan section:

https://apnews.com/article/chargers-derwin-james-suspension-upheld-37163b945735ce42ce917ac888b3fe78

I hope he modifies his approach to blocking and there are no more issues.

The opposing players weren't even calling for a foul. The NFL should back off on enforcing such ticky tack bullshit. If the players think the game is too unsafe, they can work somewhere else.
