You need a workable scheme on the ground before you can say what he is or he isnt. Its the rare NFL back that can make something out of nothing. Our run game provides little in the way of strategic advantage to our RBs. Walker can find yards regardless. Charbs can't.

The fact that when he has a little room he can be effective, to me, says that he's a good bit better than he has shown.
He can't even get a 4th and one.. I'm not sure who you're watching.

If you watch the replay of that run from All22 it was DOA. Our line collapsed. The Rams had a jump on where we were going and blew the play up.

And teams know where we are running because our run scheme is dookie.
Didn't the same happen with the Niners?
I'll take your word with the Rams play but I'm just not feeling it with him.

Seen him whiff as a defender runs to a sack. Seems like a bunch of times. I wonder if Austin Gentry makes a difference for us. I would like us to get some proven guards.

I wanted to be open-minded to Charbonnet when the Hawks drafted him, that maybe Carroll/Schneider saw something that I didn't... but he's slow and not really shifty, and not exactly a revelation in the passing game, not bad, but not worth a 2nd. He's "OK", but not a 2nd round talent like Walker was. Agreed, a 5th round talent. An OL pick would have been better.

Lots of other backs drafted later look more dangerous than Charbs. Schneider-Carroll undervaluing OL depth and overvaluing shiny objects, except Charbonnet isn't really very shiny.

I feel like I'm watching Turbin when he gets the call, and that was dreadful!

I cant say that i have seen him do anything this year to impress. He had a few moments last year when i tbought - ok, he has some tools to work with... just needs time.

But i cant pass judgement on him this year when he has carried the ball 24 times in the last 7 games.

Some runners need to get into a rhythm. Charbs gets spot duty in a unti that is used sparingly at best. I dont think its enough load for him to get going.

When we leaned on him against Miami, he averaged over 5 yards per carry on 18 totes. The weeks prior to that game werent great, but that may have had to do with him filling in for Walker, where by the Miami game, they scripted the run game to his style.

The three games after that, his ypc were solid as well.

He just hasnt had the carries to say one way or another that he is a bust... in my opinion.

Why not run more I or two back with both K9 and Charbs...more blocking for K9 or Charbs more for the D to think about...sorry I am old school in some ways...lol
For 1 thing you would be taking a better player than Charbonnet off the field for him to be purely a blocker. On passing plays you'd have 2 below average passing game RBs on the field. You might be better using a #6 OL than using 2 RBs.

I like his effort / toughness. Last season I thought he was on the verge of breaking out. I've been also wondering both last year and this, if it isn't about how he is being used. Also the oline always comes into every one of these debates when evaluating offensive players. So hard to judge sometimes.

I agree with others. It's not fair to Charbs to call him a bust yet. He needs a much better line than what he has had to work with. His game is different than K9's

Remember a couple of seasons ago, when after injuries we were signing a string of free agents just to even have a running back on the roster...
I think drafting a tough back like Charbonnet was addressing those concerns. I like him...Let's see how he does as our offensive line seems to be improving.

I like Charbonnet, but he was a extreme reach for a 2nd round pick . I watched him at UCLA and honestly thought he would be faster . He seems to Have gained weight/muscle and lost a significant amount of explosiveness.

He reminds me of Mack Strong at times with his running style/speed. If your drafting a big power back (with a 2nd round pick) make sure he has 4.4-4.5 speed . (Marshawn Lynch, Jamal Lewis, and Derrick Henry.

Charbonnet ran a 4.53 and Henry ran a 4.56 but Henry looks SIGNIFICANTLY faster .
