The potential is obvious.

Listed at 6-foot-5 and 321 pounds, Carpenter offers the kind of size no other lineman on Seattle's roster does. No one can physically impose his will on an opposing player quite like Carpenter can when healthy. But knee injuries have reduced that potential to merely a massive tease through his first two seasons in the league.

"He's quick as a cat. Big dude, too ... strong. But I don't know. It's almost been two years minus a couple snaps last year that he wasn't really healthy for. So we'll see," center Max Unger said.

Carpenter feels he's finally ready to prove what he can be. He says he's 100-percent healthy and no longer has worries over the strength of his injured knee.

I hope they finally get some production out of this guy. He's got a ways to go, seeing how the rookie, bird-legged Jesse Williams was standing him up in practices.

Seahawks with braids are a dying breed lately. If just for that reason alone, I desperately want Carpenter to succeed.

To be fair, Williams' legs are only smallish below the knees. The places that actually matter for drive strength- midsection, butt, hamstrings- he's not skinny there. Williams wouldn't be in the NFL if he wasn't a royal pain to move.

Thanks for the info, Kearly. I've never seen a shot of him that shows his thighs or possibly "the ass of a $20 mule (forgot who said that..one of the previous S&C coaches)". That's encouraging.

I've been pestering him on twitter to get away from his free lance workouts and get with our S&C coaches to strengthen those knees. I'm sure he's hanging on my every word.

You know, I've got long hair (in braids as we speak), and with all the Hawks chopping their locks I was thinking about doing the same to fully go All In for this season... but maybe I was going the wrong way? Maybe, rather than shave my head I need to dread mine in order to pick up the slack for Earl and Bruce? Tough decisions on the horizon...

As far as James is concerned, something tells me that Carp comes through this season. He probably won't play the full 16, but I'm actually okay with guys on this team not playing the Full 16 if they are healthy for the stretch run and the post season. Harvin, Miller, Carp, Bruce, and Turbin are all guys that I'm okay with missing time this season seeing as how we have quality depth ready to step in if they're out for a little bit. That's a huge difference with the PC/JS regime is that in the past we would absolutely need everyone to play as close to the full schedule as possible if we wanted even a shot at making the playoffs. Now, guys getting nicked up is just a part of the game and guys actually step up when called upon off the bench. I love it.

Fingers crossed with regards to the big fella!

I imagine that Carp has a hell of a lot of rust to knock off. I think I read that his primary goal since he went on IR was just working on rehab and his overall conditioning.

His upside is being the best run blocking guard in the league in my opinion. He has all the tool. The downside of course is just being another gigantic fatass whose body could not hold up to NFL punishment. Lets hope this the year he puts it all together

Alternately, maybe that's just a sign of how good Jesse Williams can be for us this year. :th2thumbs:

Yup, we need more push from the interior. I have a feeling that when he lines up against the 9er OL it will remind him of playing LSU, but this time he's got Quinn showing him new tricks.

Those that listened in on Tom Cable's latest interview know that many of the offensive linemen, including Carpenter, have been playing too high. Cable will insist on them using more knee bend and getting their pad level lower.

Also, although Carpenter may still be listed at 321lbs, his current functional weight is all of 350lbs.

But you leave out that in that same interview Cable refers to it as, "Good Weight" and that he is, "More Muscular and a lot stronger"
