Sweet. Cal has become eligible for arbitration, so this is a bit of a defense against that. Nice to be able to know his salary for the foreseeable future. Gives the team some stability.

He earned it, for sure.

I really like Cal Raleigh. Happy for him. He and Julio locked up long term. Now do the same with some pitchers.

No doubt. He's low key the heart of this team, imo. One of the best catchers in baseball signing for that deal? For once, I'll give the front office some credit. Not often, but this is a huge win.

But this time they didn't screw it up, they got it done.

Also, this deal includes a full no trade clause. The Big Dumper clearly loves it here. I like players who WANT to play in Seattle.

Hopefully with the Dumper locked in, that helps resign some of these pitchers. Specifically Gilbert.
Yeah, the more they play together, the more likely they are to hang around. And when you consider how the pitchers praise Cal and credit him with how well they're doing, sounds like a real boost to team morale.

Love, love, love this signing. Nice to have players who want to play here. Especially talented ones. And it is not a horrible deal for the team.

In other news Bliss got the 2nd base job
Only slightly surprised. I figured he'd be up by July or so anyway. We're better off with Moore available in the utility role. He can play 7 positions at league average or better performance. Guys like that are gold.

No doubt. Versatile guys who are a little above average can stick around for a long time. M's have had a few guys like that over the years.

I kind of like Bliss. I definitely prefer him over Moore as an everyday starter. I wonder what the over/under is before Cole Young takes his job though. I guess we won't know until we watch Bliss play for a bit.

I was trying to remember the player we used to have here that played 7 positions. Solid player, and pretty similar to Moore. It's gonna' drive me crazy til I remember.

I wonder how much the firing of Servais and the hiring of Dan Wilson had to do with Cal's decision to sign?
