Bill Belichick NOT named to HOF on first ballot

I think Belichick should be put in. Kind of like a judge overturning a jury verdict. It was an obvious mistake. Any knowledgeable person about the NFL with an ounce of integrity knows so.

This is a good example of why I put no stock or interest in any of the sports 'halls'. Any award that is subjective and mostly non-transparent isn't worth much to me.

I would recommend looking up Mike Sando's twitter discussion which sheds some real light on why this likely happened. Sando is a HOF voter and says he voted for Bill.

The process might be flawed, but the result is still ridiculous. The ones punishing him for Spygate need their vote taken away.

See, my thing is this: if you're gonna punish A HOF worthy player/coach/exec etc, then punish them "on the spot" and let them "serve their time" and be done with it. If it's a big enough offense to make them wait a round, then it should disqualify them completely. Period. End of story. "No Bronze Bust and Gold Jacket for youuuuu" type shit.

I mean, refresh my memory, did they bump Lawrence Taylor to the next round of voting for his transgressions? And, believe me, I get it. That cheating shit was W A C K. But, to me, you're either a Hal of FAMER or you're not. And there's just no way you can tell me that Bill "Darth Hoody" Belichick and his EIGHT (8) gottdamn total SB rings ISN'T a HOFer. Especially if you say the Namaths and LT's are (they are).
I understand it from both sides of the argument. I understand the: 'if he's going in why wait' side and the 'why give the ultimate honour to a scumbag' side. I'm generally on the why wait side.

Terrell Owens didn't go in immediately. Will Shields, (with 12 ProBowls), was made to wait. Mike Shanahan will probably go in posthumously. Plenty of people who deserved to be in have been made to wait because of their misdemeanours. If Belichick doesn't get the oak leaves on his bust I won't lose any sleep over it.

I hope they don't make Brees and Fitzgerald wait.

Orlando, FL...for good.

What a crock of ****. If Belichick isn't first ballot, they might as well skip to the second ballot for everyone.
Some would argue that how he did after Brady left is proof of how good he truly is, and that there's strong evidence that Brady was 90% of the reason for the Patriots' success over the years he was there. I was as surprised as anyone at how poorly he did after losing Brady. If he was truly a great coach, he'd have made the Patriots great again in 2-3 years like Macdonald has done for the Seahawks. Just sayin'. Maybe it's warranted here, and he was doing a lot more "coattail riding" than anyone realized at the time.

One might think his obnoxious girlfriend might tempt a few to delay his entry into the hall of fame.

But I think just being around her is probably punishment enough.

Put the man in.

It doesn't matter to me. I regularly wear my Bonds 25 shirt in public.
If Barry was a warm and fuzzy kind of guy he would be in. But he was prickly at best and did not give two-shits about reporters/journalists.; and they hate him for it.

I wear my Bonds jersey with pride - best ever.

I thought in those years, Belichick the coach did very well with what Belichick the GM gave him. Even got to the playoffs with a mediocre team led by Mac Jones in (I think) his second year. They had a good record with the corpse of Cam Newton too. His defenses continued to be strong.

He could always coach. Lost his touch as a GM later on, but that's not what he's being inducted for anyway.

I didn't follow baseball closely. I knew who Bonds was and the controversy surrounding him. I just liked the black & orange shirt. It came with 8 other shirts as a package deal on eBay.

From the outside his whole "girlfriend" situation seems ridiculous, but might shed some light on his character. I mean, good for you dude, but blech.

We're not on the inside so who even knows why the snub? His numbers are there...

I don't care. Add him being a curmudgeon at every press conference, as if reporters were below him was asinine. But he learned under "The Big Tuna," Bill Parcells.

But, the reporters have a job to do, reporting to the fans that basically foot the bill for his wages, and the wages of the owner and everything else.

Do I believe he is one of the greatest, if not the greatest coach the NFL has ever seen, Yes. But, as far as I'm concerned, he earned the delay for getting in. No worries though, he'll get in next year.

He'll get in someday. If he's not a first-ballot, I say, "ha, ha, neener, neener, neener!"

I don't like him.

Barry Bonds isn't in the mlb hof either...you let one cheater in you gotta let them all in....
I agree that Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, Clemmons, et al should all be in the MLB HOF but with a full story underneath their plaques. Use it as an educational tool. To do otherwise smacks of revisionism, pretending that those guys didn't exist. They did nothing that was illegal at the time. They received no suspensions or fines. All of their 'punishment', ie not being named to the HOF, was after the fact.

What Belichick did in the Spygate scandal was against league rules, but he and the team were disciplined for it and he was allowed to continue to coach. This differs from MLB's stance against Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson who were given a lifetime ban.

IMO if the league allowed Belichick to continue to coach for over another decade after the dust had settled on the Spygate scandal, he should not be disqualified from the HOF. The scandal should be prominently noted in his bio, but I do not feel that it rises to the level of a ban from the HOF.

I want to see the emails that had to be flying around and text messages to make this happen. Bill was and is an asshole, he pissed a lot of people off, many whom are voting.
This. And TBH - Brady leaving revealed who had the magic there. Other than that it's just chopped sweats and Darth Vader drama.

Just a toxic culture - even the owner, that pissed everyone off on all fronts. Not surprised much.
