It was an under-the-radar signing that shouldn’t have been. When defensive lineman Michael Bennett signed a one-year, $4.8 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks in March, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost their most disruptive weapon against the pass, and Seattle head coach Pete Carroll added a perfect wingman for the subtleties in his defensive fronts. ............

“For years, we have been looking for an inside presence in the pass rush. I think that’s the best shot that we have right now. The other guys are doing well too, but he has really jumped out.”

And he’s done so as the Seahawks have been waiting for their other pass rushers to hit the field. Cliff Avril and Chris Clemons have been dealing with injuries, and Bruce Irvin won’t be back until Week 5, because he’s serving a league-mandated suspension. In the interim, and for the NFL’s best defense, Michael Bennett has been the best kind of difference-maker — the kind that does more than even his coaches thought he could.

More sacks or interception?
I say SACKS! :th2thumbs:

Gah, this question is starting to get to me. When you force more sacks on the QB, they in turn want to release the ball more quicker or have fears* being in the pocket, therefore, making decisions which could very much de-moralize himself and the connection between the offense.
This is why i think having more sacks on the QB can be if not more beneficial to a defense then interceptions. However, you cannot down-talk the importance of interception with field position but also being in the head of the WR/QB.
This is why the Seahawks defense is so dynamic, they are able to do both now that they have the speed of the pass-rushers and the limited space in the secondary that the QB are forced to decide to play aggressive or conservative.
I suppose that is the reason why the Seahawks know the only way to be beaten is by their own ability in that present-moment or a more rational thinking... the opponent's run game. Teams that can run well have a chance to beat this years defense, but Carroll is aware of this and have another personnel that specifically stops the run game. Red,Bane,Truck,Clemons = one helluva wall, plus the speed with the linebackers... :141847_bnono:

I was thinking about this the other day...

At DE I think you go Clemons and Avril right?

Inside you have Bennett and ??? McDaniel has been disruptive and he's long. McDonald was great this last week. Mebanes pretty solid. And don't forget Jordan Hill, he is more of a pass rushing specialist type. One of these guys will be the right fit/better option. And you can crash Irvin off an edge like you said.

We have plenty of season to try combinations and grade out players but its pretty exciting we have quality guys to evaluate for 13 more weeks.

Sacks are a sure deal, loss of yardage and down. Hoping for INTs is much more of a gamble. Plus pressure on the QB usually equals INTs. So you always want an awesome pass rush.

And I love the 72, reminds me of Joe Nash.

He's got that non stop motor you love to see in your pass rushing lineman. I would love to see clems and avril at DE, Bennett and McDonald inside with irvin at the Sam on obvious passing downs.. that's just nasty right there.... and if Irvin comes back and does nothing, pull him and put schofield in there...
