Tyler Booker or Will Campbell would be a step in the right direction…
If I recall, on draft day, one scout (or counsultant) said “we just got an (explicative) great player”. Paraphrasing. Please fire that person

It’s early yet on Haynes and even though there has been no instant gratification Haynes could just turn out to be a good solid OLineman.

My concern is that it’s clear Bradford hasn’t got that ‘it’ and all he has is just size, and a predisposition to penalties and a matador’s cape. If Bradford could even move the pile at all run blocking I might have a different view but keeping him at RG when it’s clear he’s not getting his job done is really a mystery to me.

I don't see how lack of effective execution by an offensive line could NOT CAUSE poor results with plays called in any offensive scheme. Maybe they aren't taking to the coaching received, or maybe that coaching is lacking in technical merit, but the problem is obviously one of player's lack of execution.
This is beyond one players execution. This line needs an experienced oc and oline coach to be better. One of the most important pieces to an NFL team is a good oline coach. And they need some more talent obviously. I do feel like they should be better than they are at the moment. That leads back to the guy running the offense.

Bradford was poor against the Rams. However, part of that is that he was trying to cover for a RT who was worse. The O-Line has to work as a unit which means the RG can't just win his block and keep the opponent at the LOS if the RT is getting badly beat and is dropping too far back and outside. The RG has to cover against stunts and he has to take a covering position between C & RT.

It's tough for most #3 Ts to replace either of the 2 T starters. It becomes a huge problem when you're down to the #4 or #5 T. The Seahawks problems are compounded by a lack of blocking from the TEs and RBs. Additionally their scheme doesn't utilise screens and quick timing passes to the TEs and RBs.

2TE sets can help. You can also use a #6 OL as a mobile TE if there's a specific match-up problem, (as there was with the RT against the Rams wide pass-rush split). It's a steep learning curve for rookie coaches. The Seahawks aren't going to get better talent before 2025 so they have to better utilise what they have.

Not sure I agree that the OC is hanging the OLine out to dry when run blocking and that’s on the players and not the coaches. I say this b/c the run blocking sucks and that is man on man and our men are getting shoved and are unable to move the pile except rarely.

The OC does have success with a longer pass, no doubt that exposes the OL as you say but when the run isn’t happening you do what the team can get done. Why I disagree with your premise that it’s on the OC rather than the players is the reality that Geno is near to the fastest in the league getting rid of the ball.To me it’s on the players and not the coaches or possibly their poor personnel decisions by the OLine coaching staff. If the ‘backup level’ interior OLine starters can’t get it done, bring in the depth guys who are hungry for their shot. At least try some personnel changes.

I have to say I’m confused by the Bradford over Haynes deal and the problems at RT are buzzard’s luck and nothing less. Doing nothing and continuing with a failed blocking scheme where the run blocking isn’t working is like Ground Hog Day over and over and over.

Perhaps we may see personnel changes when the bye is over or it will be a long end to the season. I am regrettably being turned towards pessimism with the lack of OLine improvement this season. This is what is wrong with the O and despite Geno’s recent flake outs them not being able control TOP puts unnecessary pressure on an inconsistent and emerging D.
Nice post.

I think the fondness of this years offense for taking shots down field is similar to that of last year. It's a continuation of what the opposition has become accustom to game planning for.

Anthony Bradford is the latest power guard with heavy feet and too much inertia to keep under control and remain square and able to mirror A gap and B gap incursions. It's a continuation of what we have witnessed at guard for a number of years.

Seahawks are among a group of teams struggling with their offensive line. It's an annual league wide challenge in an era of declining talent for the offensive line. A league and era that pursues and chases mismatches over competitive match ups of past decades of play.
......................................................................................

P.S. I should disclose that, although I tolerate it under specific down and distance circumstance, I'm not a fan of the shot gun.

If the Seahawks drop their second game to the 49ers, that might open the door for Haynes. And, if the season continues to go south, Sataoa Laumea might see some daylight as well.

Losing him has been a massive loss. Then you bring Fant back and he can't stay on the field. RT has been just brutal. Can't predict injuries. Just really a bummer. He's a hell of a player and he makes this O Line a lot better.
