Every coach has their pride and especially when everything is on the line...just didn't work out for him, but for Mike it was perfectly covered.
This!!!That's what happened. McVay and Stafford thought we were sending the house and Stafford was licking his chops to get it to Williams. MM knew on film Williams would be the primary here in that situation.
They were outplayed and outschemed.
Good thing we have a smart defense. It wasn't luck.
Absolute pick play.Well, on the wide-open touchdown for the Rams, it was an illegal pick play. Rams can cry me a f'ing river.
He was doubled as well.No matter what, I'd just throw to 12
I like Tank a lot, but don't like him one-on-one vs Williams in that situation. Love peeling back after faking the blitz was definitely the correct move. If Love blitzed in that situation, it's TD Williams...Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports that Mike Macdonald admits that two people on Williams was a mistake:
From the quote, it doesn't seem obvious to me, though. What Macdonald said was: "We actually didn’t even execute that play well on fourth down." That's not exactly an admission that they screwed up. But Condotta says: "On his radio show Monday on Seattle Sports 710, Macdonald seemed to indicate that one of the mistakes might have been both Love and Lawrence dropping to cover Williams and that Seattle was supposed to have more rushers going after Stafford."
I didn't hear the radio show, so I don't know what Macdonald said. Did he admit both Love and Lawrence were not supposed to cover Williams on that play?
When push comes to shove,He was doubled as well.
Agree with this take. Love was definitely rushing, looked like he was supposed to rush the passer then peeled off a split second late when the RB ran. Looked like DLaw was in good position to break up the pass if he had toIt was clearly a 2 edge drop.
The only thing that is questionable or I can think of is Julian Love. It looked like he wanted to rush because he thought Kyren was staying in to block. The moment the RB started to run a route, Love peeled off. It could have been a completely free-lance thing from Love or it was part of the defensive play rule.
I can see where McVay is coming from because normally a defense just doesn't rush 3 dudes. It's not a blitz, it's a simulated pressure. The way Love reacted sort looked like he was part of the rushing attack.
We don't know until the players or coaches say so. Either way, the Seahawks outplayed them on that play. I don't think it was luck but Love clearly saw something and acted accordingly. He knew where the ball was mostly likely going if he didn't peel off. Good heady play in my opinion from Love. He took away the 1-1 of Williams vs. Lawrence.
Fortuitous bust, really?
Did they really "luck into it" McVay, or did you get outschemed by Macdonald?
I think he was outschemed and was a little butt hurt after the game.
Them going for the field goal wouldn't have helped them much. Ball starts at the 35-yard line due to them being scared of Shaheed. With their defense getting cooked all day, we go right down and score a FG or TD, and they still would have needed a TD. So going for the TD there was the right call.I am normally aggressive, but with 4:59 left I felt like McVay should have kicked the field goal and then tried to stop us and kick a game-winner. It's weird - McVay is a GREAT coach, as is Sean Peyton. And I was already buzzed when Peyton made his decision, triply buzzed when McVay made his. But I thought at the time that they both made mistakes. If McVay had gotten the touchdown, we had 4:30 left to drive down and win. If he was afraid to kick the field goal because he couldn't stop us, then what did he think would happen if he got the touchdown?
See above. Macdonald says they didn't mean to double Williams, confirming what McVay says. So we got lucky.I don't know if he got out schemed - has McDonald spoken about the play?
Good point, but the Rams winning in either scenario is predicated on their defense making a relatively quick stop.Them going for the field goal wouldn't have helped them much. Ball starts at the 35-yard line due to them being scared of Shaheed. With their defense getting cooked all day, we go right down and score a FG or TD, and they still would have needed a TD. So going for the TD there was the right call.
What? You don't like being lucky? As one of my old coaches used to say, "It's better to be lucky than to be good."Um.............the Rams got lucky on several occasions in that game. Geezus man.
I listened to the radio show and didn't hear anything like this, so not sure what Condotta is talking about. Maybe he is misinterpreting something.See above. Macdonald says they didn't mean to double Williams, confirming what McVay says. So we got lucky.
