If guys are dinged up, I'm sure you'll see them rest, but I highly doubt Pete is going to just start the JV against the Cards or Rams.

Holmgren was asked this question yesterday and his answer was you first rest players that are hurting. With healthy starters you have to balance between risking an injury with keeping them sharp. IF we clinch, I imagine Pete will play the games as if they are pre-season games. Starters first two quarters then rest. I see no reason that the "Always Compete" mantra can't apply to and with the backups as well as the starters.

Isn't it awesome to be able to discuss this?

I don't want to lose a game at home either though and ruin that streak.

I'm pretty sure Russell Wilson would agree with you! :D No the OP question goes contrary to PC's philosophy. EVERY game is a championship opportunity. I would be shocked if we sat our starters and played backs against either the Cards or Rams. It's just not in his nature. Obviously if we've got a confortable lead we'll throw in the backups, but I believe he wants to be as sharp as possible, that can only be done by playing.

plus the week of rest during the WC round should give us plenty of time to heal and rest and we should come out firing in the divisional round.

No. There will be no "resting players" until the games are decided. If anything, you'll see the Cards and Rams get blown so far out of the building that the starters get rested early. But that's it.

Pete has invested too much time into the "always compete", "next man up", and "win forever" to suddenly go to "this game doesn't matter". It would be too far of a departure from the established culture on this team.

great post! Your avatar disgusts me. :D

I'll be exceptionally disappointed if Russell doesn't start at least the first quarter of every remaining game. I'd be surprised if Pete takes away his ability to set a record for # of wins in a QB's first two seasons that would likely never be broken. He's already tied for first with Rapistberger at 22, if we can win out and Russell can reach 26...Yeah, good luck to any future QBs trying to reach 27.

Oh, come on. We lock up the #1 seed in week 14 if we beat you this Sunday. Are you seriously going to try and blame us for being optimistic about reaching it one way or another before the end of the season? ;)

Does that mean you are rolling over? Would save us some travel money.

You need to go to Mels Diner in SF and talk to Mitch Friday morning. He'll be there giving you grief. :)

I know but you still have to play the game first lol, I wouldn't blame you though even I was pretty optimistic before the 42-13 beatdown last year.

What happened to "anything can happen on any given Sunday?"

we can't afford to look that far ahead lol
Checks wallet, see's it's empty, then realizes it costs a fan absolutely nothing to look that far ahead and remembers this is WHY people come to .net: to discuss different scenarios exactly like this. Shakes head and wonders why did you post that reply?

As for the OP's question, I think we probably see our starters come out at halftime. That let's them stay at game speed and be ready for the playoffs. But personally, and who knows how Carroll sees it, I think we pull Wilson and Lynch almost entirely. Why let them risk injury vs those two defenses? Especially the Rams, how they've dominated our oline the past two years.

I disagree. I think letting our backups get valuable playing time fits right in with his Win Forever philosophy. How did ET put it? "We are all starters." This is a great chance to train the next guys up.

You should have been optimistic. A game and a half lead with a home finale vs the sorry ass Cards of 2012? Despite a Seattle beat down, your division crown was almost guaranteed.

What the hell is a "meaningless game?" I wouldn't want to try to explain that concept to Pete and Russ.
