49ers coordinators break down potential new starting QB for Week 6

The San Francisco 49ers may have to start Adrian Martinez at quarterback this week, so defensive coordinator Robert Saleh shared some info about him.

A Martinez appearance would be the first for a ufl/xfl qb since 2022.

Minny released Ridder off its ps last week.

The Niners drafted Kurtis Rourke in the 7th. This guy kept playing with a torn acl in college, had surgery in February and still ran a 4.75 at the combine. Rourke missed all of preseason and remains on nfi. His practice window is as soon as next week.

It sounds like Shan would have injected Rourke as the qb2 this week if he was fully healthy. Well, the bigger factors are his lack of preseason experience plus the fact qb3s under Shan are usually pressed into service.

Shan mentions “the roster” and not the team if this kid passes his window. Rather than risking waivers, he will likely cut Martinez for someone who has never taken a live snap or been hit by a member of another nfl team. Talk about sink or swim.
