Was playing around with sportrac.

If you release Lockett, Geno and Jones, do you save 58 mil. in cap space?

  1. Released Dre'Mont Jones
    (Saved: $16,510,000)
  2. Released Tyler Lockett
    (Saved: $17,000,000)
  3. Released Geno Smith
    (Saved: $25,000,000)

I'm guessing the dead cap for 2025 would be 28mill for all 3 players?

I’m pretty sure once Geno’s guarantees kicked in last month we can’t get any real cap savings by cutting him. I don’t know where that number came from.

I think he is talking about doing those things next year, and assuming there are no other things with those players that happen this year (like restructure for Tyler.) In that case, what he is saying is accurate but closer to 30 million in dead money.

Thanks, that makes sense. Honestly, there will be so many changes between now and then that I can’t even begin to worry about next years release candidates.

There is no way they pay Lockett 30 million next year. His release gets them about even
Unless Dremont Jones morphs into Lawrence Taylor then his is getting cut
Fant at 13 million might be an option to save some money

not a lot of space there

If they're released before June 1, 2025:
Geno: $13 million dead cap,$25 million savings
Tyler: $14 million dead cap, $17 million savings
Dre'mont: $ 14 million dead cap, $11 million savings

sources:

Here's the whole list for the Seahawks, there is a tab for each of the next couple of years:

If the team cuts Geno and Tyler before June 1st, they go from $19M over the cap to $23M of cap space... a $42M shift.

And they'll likely re-sign DK during the off season, thereby reducing his 2025 cap hit.

John has some work to do and I'm sure that he'll get it done.

It's early, but Seahawks will definitely have some work to do, cap wise, going into the 2025 off-season.

Also, guys that will be in line for new deals:

Geno, DK, Woolen, Cross, Walker, Tre Brown, Baker, Dodson.

It's kind of weird to say this, but this roster is built to win right now, as we're going to be letting some good players walk.
