Seriously?......In a pre season game?

If this continues the NFL will be added to my list of unwatchable.

they'll start taking commercial breaks for penalties soon.

If that POS Goodel can find a way to line his pockets with more money, he'll do it.

The commercial breaks will be for player privacy - it is known.

A lot of people bitched about the quality of the replacement refs....but I tell you what, the game they called was ultimately more watchable than what the refs are calling this pre-season.

Some of those procedural penalties were on the offense though. They need to clean that up stat.

There are calls that seriously need to be re-evaluated. The roughing the kicker calls for instance. If a player is not on their feet with a means to stop their forward motion, how in God's name will they not roll under the kicker. Thomas was under the kicker and the kickers foot landed on top. The pass interference on Sherm was a crock, the ball was overthrown and he had tripped. The defenseless receiver calls are another example of ref stupidity, how are you supposed to tackle if the shoulder can't be used? Isn't the shoulder connected to the head? That call is by far the dumbest to come out in a long time (right alongside the tuck rule). The excess and ticky-tack calls had better stop when regular season starts.

If you remember correctly, we were heavily penalized last year as well, and that was during the season.

I haven't watched any other preseason matches so I'm not sure if this is endemic around the league.

I know (from last week at least anyway) that refs are auditioning and so have to call everything or else they'll be marked down.
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks this might be coming from Goodell, who wants to do his utmost to reduce fan engagement in preseason to try and push his 18 game season agenda through, but I don't really believe that's the case

2 calls really stood out to me, the first one was the call when lotuleilei came in and bounced off the RB as he was just tackled, I've seen that a lot and it's almost never called, and he really didn't come in very hard at all.
The second was the earl play, I watched it again and he was BLOCKED into the punter, did his best to stop his momentum right in front of the kicker. Then the kicker's front leg came down on it causing the ensuing fall. It was are u kidding me. And I like Ron Winter

I've watched numerous other pre-season games this year and, yes, it is wide-spread and endemic. My hope is that the refs have been told to be super critical during fake games, as to set a message, but will ease up a bit once the real games start. It seems I recollect last season was similar.

The Bobby Wagner hit was the worst to me. It was basically the Kam Chancellor/Vernon Davis hit all over again. Nailed the dude in the chest, and the refs call it helmet to helmet because he hit him hard and the guys head snapped back. Perfect execution on Wagner's part. I can't stand seeing that.

It was utter bs last night the penalties. And this isnt a biased fan outlook. I thought Green Bay got a few thrown there way that shouldnt as well. Both teams were heavily penalized on plays that were not penalties.

I know that crews have to review games during the week and train on their mistakes. Heres hoping they learn alot from teh recent failure.

So, maybe I'm reaching on this, but I really don't think so.

On the 25 yard screen pass to Michael, Eagle and Simms we're debating whether Michael should've been flagged for spearing. Eagle said yes, then Simms went on to explain why it WASN'T spearing. In mid-sentence, he stopped talking, and stammered, the same way anyone would do if someone was telling them something through their earpiece. He stopped the explanation.

IMO and experience, it was someone talking to Simms midsentence which caused him to stammer midsentence. Maybe my hate for Goodell is making me a conspiracy nut, but, he dropped the subject IMMEDIATELY. Did a CBS producer, NFL, tell him to shut up. Never say it "shouldn't" be a penalty, in case?

That sounds paranoid, but lest we forget the NFL essentially threatened to pull MNF from ESPN if they didn't take that show off the air (fictional show about pro football players...PED's, DUI's, women, etc). And, in Berman's last draft AFTER NBC won the SNF rights (and removing the extended highlight show rights), he brought up SBXL, started mocking the refs, someone told him to "watch it" to which Berman replied "they cant take anymore from me, so why stop?" (paraphrasing).

So, yeah, Goodell is cracking down. And in doing so CAN control outcomes.

It's preseason. Every sports league in the world calls things more tightly in the preseason to emphasize points they want to make.

There might be something to your conspiracy theory Pe.

Thing is, the 3 of the top 4 penalized teams in the league last year were: Ravens (#1), 49ers(#3), and Seahawks (#4). The Seahawks and the Niners are physical teams that like to hit, and Baltimore usually has an aggressive defense as well. They weren't as physical last year, but that is a franchise that takes stock in being physical.

So I can see it happening, but then you can't blame the refs for losing: the highest penalized team in the league won it all last year, and they played the 3rd highest. I really hope they don't ruin the game I love so much. I've waited almost my entire life for the Seahawks to have a defense exactly like this, and Goodie Gooddell wants to take it away.

I follow the thought that the pressure from the zebras will ease up come regular season. And as long as the guys clean up the penalties they have control over, they will be fine. No way around the occasional bad call, that's no fault of the player.
