Our run defense seems substandard in both games so far. That's not a great sign.
Substandard?
There are two comparisons I can make here. First, the Seahawks' opponents' rushing offense in these games vs. team rushing offenses in 2022, and then the Seahawks' rushing defense vs. team rushing defenses in 2022.
The 3.2 yards per rush that the Vikings got in the first game was lower than the lowest yards per rush that any team's offense had in the 2022 regular season, which was the Buccaneers at 3.4. 3.6 yards per rush, which is what the Cowboys got against the Seahawks, would be the second-worst rushing average in the league in 2022, beating only the Bucs' rushing attack.
Now looking at rushing defenses, allowing 3.2 yards per rush over the whole season in 2022 would have been the best rushing defense in the league. Allowing 3.4 yards per rush would have been second-best in the league.
I'm not saying the Seahawks will have one of the top rushing defenses in the league in 2022. There were players on the field for both teams last night that won't be on the final 53-man rosters. All I'm saying is that to see "substandard" run defense in the first two exhibition games, you've really got to
want to see substandard run defense. On-brand, I guess
