This used to be painfully true with Seahawks before MM came on board. Way too often when it looked like our D was about to put the opposing QB on the ground for a big loss of yards, the QB would make an elusive move or two, find room to throw, and golly, the opponent just picked up 20.

But now that MM has everyone on D with all of their screws hydraulically tightened, they no longer assume the defenders up front have the QB handled -- even when the potential ball catchers they're covering seem to let up for a second (as they tend to do when they notice that their QB is on the verge of being pulverized). I think some of our defenders in the past used to mirror this, but no longer -- they now make sure they keep covering hard core until the the play is unquestionably over. And thus, under MM, QB pressures seem more effective as compared to pre-MM days.

I think that's mostly a product of the scheme. MM knows how and when to attack protections.

I would also imagine the way they disguise and wait until the last second to rotate safeties might help the coverage not break down after the 1st couple reads. Cousins mentioned they had one of the best disguises just from waiting until the last second, during the play, to rotate safeties

That's a product of culture as much as anything. Play to the whistle. But also, trust your teammate to do his job and just do yours. Maintain discipline when working in chaos.

Their defense has been terrible...they needed to shelve out money to get any talent.
Yeah but trading Hendrickson and signing Boye does nothing to improve that. That’s like trading in an F-150 for a Ford Ranger and trying to convince yourself you can haul more payload with the Ranger

The article on .com about draft day talked about MM going to the board and studying the Giants after they picked up a pass rusher. He was impressed with the collection of talent. Seems like there's some respect and similar attention with how Harbaugh (John, new coach of Giants and MMs boss 3 years ago) plans to get the Giants back on track. It's cool to be new and innovative. It's also cool to have decisions approved and reinforced (or copied) by other successful coaches.

I want to see Jared Ivey, Jamie Sheriff and Connor O'Toole develop. We have some talented edge rushers waiting in the wings. I wasn't too worried when Mafe left for the big coin, but I love this pickup.

MM is familiar with a couple of branches of the Harbaugh coaching tree. Like the old saying goes: You have to learn from other people's mistakes because you don't have time to make them all yourself. :)

But you should also learn from other people's successes as well. :)

Don't expect too much from an aging player who wasn't retained by previous teams and keeps taking reduced annual salaries.

I expect plenty. He has something left in the tank. Plenty of people said to not expect much from J Law last year.
Also, he's pretty tight with J Law, and I suspect he is a big reason why Fowler signed here.
💯. More production than Mafe = win.

That is something I’m sure he will accomplish.

Define "much." I don't expect 10+ sacks from him, but I do expect him to be a solid contributor to the rotation of our edge/OLB group.
Well, he played 50% of snaps for the Commanders, but he managed less than 1000 snaps over 3 years with the Cowboys.

He also had 564 in 2024 with the Commanders. Maybe it also matters WHO is coaching and how they use him.

At $5 mill, I don't think they're expecting him to play 100% of snaps. 🤷‍♂️

Like I said, I expect him to be a solid rotational player for us.

And he's been very durable.
Also, I've long since given up on assuming the worst on a so called "older player" coming to Seattle.
We have seen COUNTLESS guys come here and produce when they are supposedly "old"
Coach Mike knows how to the get the most out of guys. There's also something to be said about that chip on the shoulder for a player who's been on a lot of teams. For a player who wants another ring. He's also tight with D Law, and I absolutely think that D Law is a huge reason why he decided to come here. Being recruited by a former teammate is a great motivator.

Absolutely.

No chance in hell he comes here if D-Law wasn't here.

And now especially when he saw D-Law get a ring last season, too.
