I think that paying K9 is more of a gamble than drafting price. I think Price will outperform K9 this year especially with Charbs out. This was a logical move based on league statistics. 2nd contracts for RB's usually don't work out well. I think we will improve significantly in our run game and O line proficiency. Some of that will be solely from Price's elite vision and downhill running style. This will be an upgrade.

You definitely don’t want to lose a K9. But honestly, losing any piece of a SB winning team is rough.
I wish K9 the best but, I totally understand the business nuances.

I agree with the latter half. I don't think it's going to be Price though. I'm betting one of the other 5 rb's to win the job. Price's only 205 lbs. Too light in the ass to be an every down back. I'm thinking more and more that this is similar to the Milroe pick from a year ago.
I think with the addition of Stephens our Oline will explode. So we may not need outstanding talent in the backfield.
But the Franchise Tag was there....

A tagged K9 would hold out for a big contract JS wouldn't want to give.
there are a ton of backs around 200 to 210 who are every down like Gibbs and Kyren Williams. He is certainly no brute like 211# Kenneth Walker

Pretty sure they will split carries like last year. Price will 100% be the starter it's not even close. This guy is going to be a star, and it will be obvious right away. On a scale of 1-10, Walker's vision was a 1 or 2, Price is a 10. Theres a reason he returned kicks. He's an upgrade over Walker.

Great point Hag. MM mentioned this in one of his pressers. They’ll find his ideal weight (retain speed/agility) and hit that target.
I agree with you (pertaining to his weight). I think he needs another 5-10 lbs.
But, I think he’s talented enough to either start off as RB1 or take it over soon after the season starts.
I’m still like a 4, 3, 5, 3, 4 yard type of guy vs a 2, 3, 1, 4, 15 yard guy…sustained drives are important.
Charb provides that sustained drive type running. It’ll be interesting what mold Price fills. Will he be an all around guy? A K9 type?
Whatever the case, I’m confident in our RB room now that Price is on the roster.

I think, and just my opinion here, but we may not be properly weighing the personal/ego part of this. We have no idea what K9 was gearing up to be with his heroic run through the latter half of the season and playoffs/superbowl.

I'm speaking in general terms here but maybe, just maybe, the lack of extra effort to keep K9 had to do with where his attitude may have gone after that run and a payday. Just my .02

We get three years of Price for what KC paid Walker for one year (not to mention the four year contract/fifth option). I get the risk, but I'm pretty sure that's what it's about.
I'm guessing Price will work his way up to 50% of Seahawks running play snaps rather quickly in 2026.
K9 should easily go from 50% of running play snaps in Kubiak's shared rotation to in excess of 65% ++ utilization in Andy Reed's offense.
That difference in utilization does impact perceived value.

Look, my point was that it’s all about risk reward. The risk the Seahawks take with this open window is that Price turns out to be the next Christine Michael, Rashaad Penny, CJ Procise etc.. The reward is he performs close to or equal to K9’s abilities at a fraction of the cost. It’s a calculated risk and I think my biggest point in the matter was with the window open right now, do you want to take that kind of risk on such a pivotal position? I’ll say it again, without K9 last year, the Seahawks do not win the Super Bowl.
Without Zach Charbonnet carrying half the load, would the Seahawks have made to the play offs?
Without Kubiak making decisive mid season adjustments would the Seahawks have made it to the playoffs?
Without twelve as one would the 2025 Seahawks have evolved into the 2025 championship team it became?
The front office and coaching staff have been very clear in expressing the perspective that at the end of each season there is a reset back to the beginning of the team building process. They have moved on with the process of building a new team for 2026.

The Chiefs appear to be very thin at RB behind Walker.
It's obviously possible that K9 would have been one of those who slack off once they get their big payday, or at least that our management feared he might. But I never got that impression about K9. He always seemed to be a good teammate and locker room guy.
I have no way of knowing for sure, but my guess that this was strictly a matter of practicality, more of a calculated business decision where they took into consideration his injury risk, financial matters, other priorities besides running back, etc. I would be surprised if personalities entered into the equation.

Do I like the risk? Not really, but it is what it is. I get what they're doing and why and I hope it all works out. My trust in the process just barely surpasses the risk tolerance.
