Is it me or why didn’t they just franchise Walker?

Just RB’s. Unfortunately. 53 million to KC? Do you actually want that? Let him go. Money saved.
Never once mentioned signing him to a long term deal. Just a one year franchise. Why are so many people missing this point?

Schneider hasn't made any player play the year on a franchise tag. That'd be especially cruel to a running back, a position with a short shelf life because of the abuse they take. As far as I've been able to find, only the Cowboys, Giants, and Raiders have done that with a running back.

Plenty of posts that have addressed that assertion.

Perhaps your seeing Ghosts.

Where in this thread do you see me saying they should have signed him to a long term contract?

Still missing my point?

I actually believe the Hawks did K9 a solid by not franchising him.

He got a bag $, and didn’t risk a big injury that would have drastically reduced his value the next season.

Plus the stuff I’ve already said. “Value” specifically

That's a good point.

And to play off of it, GM's need to nurture a positive relationship with player agents, and it's not a good look for them to abuse things like a FT on a running back that only a handful of teams have done. Walker's agent is Drew Rosenhaus, who is arguably the most prominent agent in the league and who has represented a lot of high-profile clients.

No doubt. They could have held him hostage with the tag. They let him test the market; he got that bag. Good for him. I'll always appreciate his time here, and I'm not sure about all the "butthurt" comment. He seemed like a pretty solid guy. This will probably work out for both sides. Can't blame a player for wanting to get a good contract. Feel free to show me anytime that he complained about the amount of carries he got. Him and Charbs always supported each other. Fresh legs going into the playoffs was HUGE for this team and for K9. He was a massive part of us winning the whole thing.

Holding a player hostage via some NFL/Union convention doesn't underwrite the Seahawks "twelve as one" mandate. It's just that simple.

Congratulations to Kenneth Walker III .... who earned (and wasn't cheated out of) a multi-year contract with the assistance of Drew Rosenhaus. This is how free agency should work. Numbers from OTC folllow .......

Sure, you can get them anywhere, but you also have no idea what you’re getting in them. Remember Christine Michael? Rashaad Penny? CJ Procise? Etc.. Aliso if you can get them anywhere, then why does he keep using high draft picks to select them? Within the last number of years he has used two first round picks and two second round picks on running backs.
But if you look at the list of running backs who sign big second contracts its not very good either and a lot of them fizzle out, get hurt etc. I'd rather miss and pay 2 million a year then miss and pay 14 million a year to a guy who has had a very hard time staying healthy.

Not saying I'm right because I think you can make a good argument for K9 too, I just like the way the Seahawks did it.

Agreed about K9. The remark about his being butthurt about having to share carries is unfair IMO. Every player wants to play, and all good running backs are going to want to carry the ball. Does that mean that he's a bad teammate or that he's selfish? Not unless there's something else to go along with it, like a feud with a teammate or pouting by not going into the game ala Percy Harvin.

And getting the highest possible contract isn't always about money. I'll never forget Kenny Easley saying that all he wanted in his next contract was to be paid $1 more than his rival safety Ronnie Lott. Sometimes it's about the pride of being acknowledged as the best or one of the best players in his profession.

I get that he would’ve cost $14 million but for one year, coming off of a Super Bowl, in my opinion they should’ve just gone that route. They had to spend their first round pick on a running back that nobody is really sure what he is going to do. Would rather have had the sure thing in Walker at running back and have been able to use the first round pick on another need.

If we tagged Walker, we would probably need to draft a RB anyway just for insurance for either Walker holding out or one or both of Walker or Charbs getting injured.

For sure, even if we tagged him there is a good chance he might have just pulled a Le'Veon Bell.
The franchise tag cant sit well with most players. Having a disgruntled RB that doesn't even want too be there isn't worth it.

They literally told him last summer Charbs was the guy they wanted to take over as RB1. He ran the way they wanted. Yes K9 suddenly started running good down the stretch, but for 3 1/2 years he spent not hitting the hole and dancing around. Opposite of what Mac wants.

I have never seen anywhere that they told Walker that they wanted Charbs to be the 1. Sorry, but that sounds completely made up.

It will be interesting to see how he runs in KC. Does he remember the success he had running the way MacD wanted him to here at the end? Or does he revert to some of the old Ways of Walker?

Yes it will be interesting. Especially with very different offenses coming out of 2025.

Chiefs are a pass first offense with 7th highest passing attempts and 25th most rushing attempts in 2025.

Where as the Seahawks run the football with 29th highest passing attempts and 4th most rushing attempts.
