Sherm does know football, he has also had an axe that he has ground down to a mini hatchet when it comes to the Seahawks. That and occasionally doing hot takes gets attention. IMO

This has our OC's fingerprints all over it. Darnold and Kubiak worked together in SF so they obviously felt that Darnold was a better fit for what we want to do vs. what Geno would have given us. It's a net plus in terms of salary cap, plus Darnold is a couple years younger and coming off his career best season so we can't say definitively that he's simply a bridge quarterback although that's likely what he is.

Keep your eyes on Jaxon Dart. With the extra draft capital that we have, don't be surprised of we burn one of those #2 picks on him.

Hawkblogger was saying the Vikings' o-line is awfully bad as well. I think with several coaches who've had prior relationships with Darnold, it'll be easier to get the shiny new O up and running, which is usually takes longer to start clicking.

Compare their stats and they're almost eerily similar. All is moot anyways since Geno wanted out of Seattle and back with Pete. Best we could've done under the circumstances.

........and no Rodgers! Sheesh that report of him being in town this weekend had me concerned. So no locker room cancer either.

He should be a solid bridge with potential to become the QBOTF. Don’t forget that Detroit game where they kept going for it on 4th down. Could’ve been some field goals in there and a change in momentum. And the rams are that good. So he sucked to the rams who almost beat the eagles who creamed KC. So he sucked less than PM did in his loss.

Thing that is driving me nights about this is all the people saying this is not an upgrade when questioning what the Hawks are doing. Just imo but I don't think this was ever "Darnold is better than Geno" in a vacuum. I think it was more about Darnold at 10M less so they can be more aggressive in bringing in other pieces in a system friendly to him being better than having to extend Geno at the $45M range.

Also drive me nuts when people say the download in talent he's working with cause he only has JSN to throw to. As if via draft / free agency there won't be others brought in.

While I understand the logic the point is that the team is tied to Darnold for 2 years which limits their flex. With Geno you let him play out his one year deal and then are free to do as you wish the following season or draft a QB this year to sit and learn and take over in 2026.

Right now you have dead cap space and Darnold so it is really a wash and not an upgrade.

Unless JS is able to parlay that draft pick from the trade into a stud it is a wash.

I can’t tell if this is sarcastic, because those 3 were all over the map in terms of clutchness.

Hasslebeck from I remember was sometimes clutch. Inconsistent in that regard but still pretty good

Wilson was usually clutch and would come through when you needed him.

Geno was usually mister anti-clutch and would shit the bed in the biggest moments

He wasn't going to play out that contract though and the Seahawks wanted to lower the cap hit as well.
It's a bad situation for the team so they made the best of it.

Hard to say if there was going to be a hold out scenario but which is why the draft is crucial to add security. Darnold is a very expensive fail safe and why it is hard to pay a QB that much money beyond one year and still commit to drafting a QB high. The Falcons are paying that price now.
