Yes, I get the new league year hasn't started yet and he's technically under contract, but the person I was responding to was talking about a clause for matching other offers, so obviously they're talking about for when free agency starts.
And if you want to go oven further JS said at the combine legal tampering starts. That’s when everyone discusses market and contracts.

I wonder if there is any correlation with Tyrice Knight taking over at Mike too. It wasn't long after we got Jones.

I’m pretty sure that Dodson was our Mike guy and a few weeks after his arrival Jones took that responsibility.

Your'e right. I don't know why I said that, I knew that as well. Point still stands though. Knight could have had some impact of his own on changing things around.

Knight did a great job last season and had his own impact improving our defense but the way Jones was able to have players in the right positions and making adjustments when they weee out of position was fun to watch and I believe was the major factor.

That was my point. The post I responded to only mentions Jones in the turnaround, not to take anything away from him. I know he was a big reason, already knowing MM's defense and being able to QB it while also being a good player. I am just saying Knight was a pretty good upgrade over Dodson too. Jones only played 2 games with Dodson before Knight became the starter.

Just wondering if we would have been as good if it was Jones and Dodson the rest of the way.

I don’t mention knight in this context because his contract isn’t an issue this off season.

To answer whether we were better for adding knight and letting Dodson go, I think it was a no brainer. Knight showed skills when he was on the field and Dodson was likely going to feel a little disgruntled after losing the Mike.

I’m super happy to have him showing up so strong in his rookie year. I do believe that knight played well and helped our defense improve but I also think there is something to be said for Jones coming in here and running the defense so well so quickly. Luckily we don’t have to worry about both contracts right now

Not knowing the full cap situation, if they could afford it, the Hawks should absolutely resign Jones ASAP before his price goes even higher based on his play on the field. He is absolutely one of the top two or three pieces to that D and needs to be retained at all costs.
It will happen. I guarantee JS will be talking to his agent during the combine to see what they're after and then let them test the waters before making an offer. I'm guessing it'll be somewhere around 10-13M/yr.

Like I said, both parties have basically said it’s a done deal unless someone comes in and pays far above market value.

And even then, they COULD franchise tag him if they wanted to. I just haven't worried even 5 percent about him getting signed.

I don't understand why he keeps getting traded for scraps. Am I missing something? He went from being referred to as the leader of the Rams defense by McVay to being traded for a fifth rounder in two years in the same off-season. I know the Titans suck, but he turned 25 literally three days ago. Why would they not consider him a building block? They only got a fourth rounder from us.
Makes me think more about his latest tweets

If they lose Jones because they sign Geno I'll be pissed. Long term you have to get Jones.
The only way that could happen is if they do nothing with Geno, and even then it's unlikely. They have enough levers to pull to get something done with Jones.

Remember, he's a free agent coming off his best year. Were all his years this good?
