Why didn’t the Seahawks cut Anthony Bradford?

There aren't enough good OL to go around. There are 31 other fanbases who could point to one of their OL that they want replaced.
On top of that, one scout i talked to last year made the point that men who are 6' 5" plus with ideal weight and arm length are rare in general, much less ones that can play NFL football.

His play from H1 to H2 improved dramatically. Not just his personal stats, but overall O-line play in both run & pass game.

IMO, if he leaves after this year, some folks are gonna be confounded at the contract he'll end up signing. Could be N of $15m+ a year.
I'll take the comp pick, we can draft more OL.
No way is that guy getting a big pay raise from us.

I trust Macdonald and Schneider. The NFL is littered with players whom teams gave up on too soon but later became much better.
It's littered just the same with players that teams held on for too
long that never panned out.

Agreed, but how much evidence have you seen of this under the "Carroll-less" Seahawks?
Right, I was going to bring up Pete and his tendency to hold on to
way too many players for whatever reason(s) that didn't pan out.
Mac and John are nothing like Pete, sure there may be one or two
but I can't think of a name, usually they just cut bait quick.

The NFL has not only a QB development problem, they have a players in general development problem. I was on Bradford's azz last year as much as the next guy, but he did improve quite a bit as the year went on so he deserves credit for that. I have no issue with him staying on the roster, he's earned it.

IMO, ABradford has struggled with the mental side much more than physical. Even when overpowered, (I think) it's an understanding of priorities as a play breaks down. He's gotten better so i believe that will continue. Frankly though, it doesn't matter: he's good enough to win a championship. If he plateaus this season and there's motivation to improve at RG, a lot of picks in the next draft is a good solution for a G. Maybe JS has a plan...???

Bradford is great in the run game. He pulls well and knows how to seal inside. He is ass in pass pro however

His bad plays are still awful and drive killers and potential RB and QB killers. He still has SO MUCH TO fix. Getting beat so often can't happen. Getting beat is ok, getting beat fast sucks. Yakety Yak still needs to be played when he gets lost. The glazing by podcasters who like him has really helped his image.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet, we do have a shiny new toy in Beau Stephens that has stud written all over him. Another reason I don't worry about RG much. ;)

Yeah but how many teams across the league have their 4th or 5th best lineman play better than AB? My guess would be very few to none. Nobody runs pro style in college so prosects have never been more raw. Like someone posted earlier, not just a QB development problem, but players in general. It goes all the way back to high-school too. Go check out some high school games this fall. You will not see any under center play, no qb cadence, just clappy hands shotgun spread, and thats ALL a kid will know until he is drafted.

He did improve his play heading into the playoffs and beyond. That is what they are looking at, and with this being a contract year it's likely to expect him to continue to improve in order to get a decent contract in 2027. As long as he continues to show improvement and not such a liability as he was the first half of 2025, I'm cool with it. Let the rook develop and replace him when the time comes.
Aros has always had a soft spot for struggling offensive lineman. I remember when he went off about Chris Gray. It's kind of heartwarming.

I didn't like either of them. Bradfailure can't get off the team fast enough as far as I am concerned. It's painful to watch.

Bradford is a very good player, whose rare mistakes just happen to be glaring.

Unless another Zabel (an excellent, though overrated, player) falls into our lap, Bradford’s not getting waived.

He wouldn’t clear waivers.

It’s fine for those of you who are saying he’s good enough. I just do not want to see any of you commenting during the year that “why didn’t we get rid of him last off-season”.

It’s amazing really, how far this offensive line has come. There was a time not too long ago that if you plugged Bradford in with his current skill set that he might have been considered one of the better five.

Old o line guys have always said that good lines have longevity and consistency with each other. I don’t even know when the last time a Seahawks team went two years in a row with the same starting five.

The old o line guys also say things like it takes a good 2-3 years for young olinemen to really “get” it. Some guys get it pretty quick. Others fall within the range of competency in that 2-3 years window. Bradford is in that should be getting it window now. The communication with the guys on either side of him is familiar.

I’m excited to see the strides this oline makes this season. I love that it’s the same returning five. If Bradford gets beat out then it’s because the guy who won the job is obviously better. If that’s the case I’ll trust the coaching staff and be excited about the new guys potential and how he will contribute.

Bradford isn’t as bad as he appears.

It’s an unfortunate fact that when he whiffs it’s a true “whiff”, and it goes viral amongst the fan base.

At his position no news is good news, when we see him in the news it’s bad news (generally speaking).

He’s getting better, and at this point I expect him to become above average.

Thinking maybe this is his breakout season.
Fingers crossed
