Spotrac has posted the contracts for our undrafted free agents. Over the years I've always viewed the undrafted guy with the biggest contract as the 8th round pick, as often they stand out in camp and may make the final roster or at least the practice squad.
This year's crop didn't get nearly the up front money as key guys from last year did.
Our top UDFA players this year is Aidan Hubbard, who got a $20,000 signing bonus and an extra $247,500 in guaranteed salary, which is equivalent to a year's practice squad pay. Essentially he's guaranteed to make the PS or else get paid as such.
Last year, 3 guys got that much guarantees, or more, so that says something dollar wise comparing this year's rookie class to last year's. Last year's 8th round pick was Connor O'Toole who received a $30,000 bonus and full PS guarantees. Of course, he wound up sticking on the 53 man roster for the season and worked his way into some special teams play as the season went on.
We'll see how Hubbard competes against this year's rookie class and the other young players on the roster.
