Sure, and i'm not saying it can't work. An alternative is that if you're trying to take teach an athlete to play CB from scratch you might be better taking someone younger off a track team from outside North America. Such a player could be kept on the PS as an International Developmental player who wouldn't use up an official PS roster spot. That way you could train the player all year. This has previously been tried with multiple players with very little success.

The odds will be massively stacked against Broden. I'd rather take my chances with a young, athletic but very raw, US UDFA CB who played at a very low level US school.
This is about Football players. I agree with all you've said. Except that you may need to dismiss every possible prospect because there's always going to be reasons why one won't succeed. If that's the case, why even bother trying to get better by developing anyone who has played the game?

I'm not dismissing possible prospects. I simply believe in trying to develop those players who have a greater probability of success and those with higher ceilings. Broden has further to go than other prospects, he wasn't seen as a CB candidate coming out of college, and he'll have less future playing time since he's already 25. This is a move i'd expect a short-of-talent, non-contending team or a Spring/minor league organisation to make. I see little upside for the Seahawks. Again, i'm not criticising the team's decision, but I am surprised by it.

If he has no shot at being a WR in the NFL, switching to CB might help him prolong his career. If he can't hang then he'll be out of the league.

Seems like a move Seattle is making to help the guy out, and not so much to have him become a starter on defense. He might just become servicable depth on ST or deep in the DB room.

This move costs Seattle nothing, but could pay off if dude is a natural or fast learner.

“He was someone who did a great job throughout the process last year. Unfortunately, he got hurt. But we love his movement abilities, he got ball skills and he competes. He has a great attitude. We felt that it could translate to being heck of a DB one day. He’s dealing with some health things right now. He has a timeline of when he can get back on the field. So we don’t know when that will happen, but he has been coming to meetings and great spirit about him. We are excited about it.It’ll take some time, but he’s a great guy for the job.”
“He can bend really well. He can move and go in and out of breaks. His lateral quickness is really good. He’s a great special team player, great gunner. Those are traits that you look for in defensive players. So we think that is going to translate. Don’t put a time table on it yet. He hasn’t take a snap yet. We will see when the time comes.”
