Fowler Jr. is available on the back of 6 consecutive disappointing seasons. If added he should be seen as a try-out with back-up/rotational possibilities - much as Shenault Jr. and Valdes-Scantling previously were.

I hear you, but the 2027 compensatory picks are projected to be in rounds 4 and 5. Realistically you would be risking about 20 Draft chart points of value, [in 2027, which means they're worth about 14 points in 2026], (and as a comparison pick #32 is valued at 590 points). If a transaction can be delayed until after the Draft then so much the better.

How could it hurt if the team added an experienced edge rusher of proven ability?

I don’t care if he’s older, don’t care if he has an injury history. This player could just be that experienced ability added to the pile which is already pretty deep and be yet another mentor with ability to an increasingly deep DL if another young edge is added. The end of the month will tell more.

Let’s wait and see if Fowler was just brought in to have a look see trip or if the team adds him or brings in one or two others for other visits. To me this is an interesting potential addition. The team needs to add depth with their edge rusher.

Dante Fowler was graded higher than Boye Mafe by PFF last year. Fowler was at 77.6 (21st among edge defenders) vs. 70.3 for Mafe (46th). But it's PFF, so take that with a grain of salt. Mafe had more pressures (40) than Fowler (30).

Dan Quinn is a big believer in Fowler. He coached him in college, then brought him to Dallas when he was DC there, and then took Fowler with him when he became HC of the Commanders.

Fowler's not a bad low-cost replacement, but probably can't expect too much from him in his age 32 season.

This is a great point. Hawk blogger had some good insights on it also. Without looking it up he got 30 pressures with something like 130 less snaps than Mafe. He had a better pressure % on the season.

I was wondering about that. Better to wait, keep those comps. Also, this team has a history of some really solid free agent signings, especially on defense. Get a guy around a bunch of ballers, more often than not, it rubs off on the guy. A change of scenery is legit what many players need, imo. I suspect a LOT of players would love to play on this defense. Especially since they are a SB champion on the rise.

And seeing ol' D-LAW light it up last year is hella encouraging to guys like Fowler, There ain't no substitute for his kind of experience, and hell, at 34 years of age I was still able to easily do Kyp-Ups, and I wasn't a pro athlete like Dante Fowler--Count me in. ;-)

This coach and GM combo will make THE best decision with Fowler, our picks (been absolute fire), etc.

Have you guys ever had this much faith in the staff? I damn sure haven’t.

I don't believe the edge position is a dire need. They picked up Jared Ivey last off season and also have Jamie Sheriff. They only lost Mafe but Nwosu is still there. I think they have enough bodies for the edge. Probably why it wasn't a position targeted in the draft.
