Matchups have been heavily utilized in baseball for a long time. This is far from from unique to the Mariners.

I doubt that having a bunch of guys in the lineup that don't hit well against lefties would've helped much tonight anyway. Max Fried is a damn good pitcher, and he's been really good tonight.
