Awesome news, and well deserved. Locking up the core is what maintains the team's value. Love having JSN as one of the central figures for this team for a long time. Love his attitude, and work ethic. He just doesn't have any semblance of diva, or the odd loose screw, that we see from so many star receivers.

When does the 4 years of the extension start? They just recently picked up the 5th year option on both JSN and Spoon. 2025 was their third year under their rookie deal. The 2026 season will be the 4th season of the rookie deal. With the 5th year option picked up, does this four year deal start for 2028 or does it start in what was the 5th year option for 27 or was the rookie contract torn up and this deal start for 26?

However it works out I’m happy they extended him. Just curious if this deal expires in 30,31 or 32.

Is this 4 years on top of the 5th year option or binned? IE is he now locked up for 6 years? If so that is one hell of a deal

Edit: it would appear so. Now signed through 2031
Agents always report the new money, so really its the 4/168 plus 5th year option most likely

It's through 2032, but they can spread the cap hit over the next 6 seasons. It will be interesting to see the details on the whole contract, and is likely similar to what we will see done with Spoon, though we don't need to be in as big a rush to sign him.

This is great news that they were able to get it done 2 years early so that the money can be spread out over 2 years before the extension when he will be making significantly less than that 42M APY

This is smart for both sides. We had him for two years on the fairly cheap and this way he can get a fat bonus now to make up for his lower salary and spread that out.

The bonus to this is no distractions with contract talks.
