Shaheed for me would sting the most as we gave up picks for him.

Also won the Super Bowl, and his plays definitely helped get the team there. So even if you do lose him, that Lombardi is way better than those picks.

Would love to have K9 back at the right price. If I had a choice, I would rather keep Shaheed. You can find capable RB's in the draft for a fraction of the money. Just my take.

We have the benefit of having a GM who had a young, talented roster win the SB, then watch it degrade into a decrepit, nondescript one. While none of the personnel decisions are going to be 1:1 with that one, I'm sure JS is busting his ass playing out scenarios on what it's going to take to keep this one going. That being said, I'm not sure there's too much difference between 4 years/$40 million and 4 years/$52 million. But I'm sure he's doing the math on it.

In the last couple of decades, top-tier RBs have rarely remained with their first team their entire careers. 2005 and prior had more who stuck with one team their entire careers, but after that, top-tier RBs started to be let go pretty easily. Yeah, $$$ is a big part of it, but for RBs, the relatively short peak periods of the high-abuse RB position is also a part. But in the case of K9, he still has at least another 3 kick-ass years in him I would think.

They just don't make RBs like they used to, it's sad.

I think what may happen is we lose Walker but use some of the money (that would've gone toward signing him) to re-sign Shaheed.


EDIT : Then again, with what @Chapow just stated with the Cap going up, maybe we might have enough to keep both and extend JSN and Spoon...

Couple mill more per year won’t net much if he goes to a state that has income tax.

Smart man stays with a SB contender and shares responsibility with another solid RB.

The difference is easily made up with endorsements etc

I'm not so sure when he gets his big bag of money that he's
going to be even close to the same back we saw in second half
of last season.
Is he going to get injured more due to not training as hard or
not running as hard all because he got his big bag?
I've seen it happen to players in the past in all major sports so
it's not out of the realm and it's a big risk to take, one I'd rather
not on a position that is the easiest to fill.

My 2 cents -
Maybe it has been covered in this thread maybe not but K9 cannot make it thru a whole season as the one and only featured back without getting hurt. He has proven that. He had a great year thanks to the compliment of Charbs. Once Zach went down K9 only had to play 2.75 games as the feature. Nothing like a good RB kept fresh from a season of limited action.

If it's true that the team said go find $12-$13 mil, come back for $10 then I'm all for it. Otherwise, stick to the plan that worked well this year and get another back that'll run tandem with what they have.

Minimal worries?

The obvious “worry” is, can he stay on the field after we pay him.
I love the guy, and respect what he’s done recently.

Fact is his history suggests paying him top dollar is a gamble.

We’re going to have Charbs coming back, RBs will be available late in the draft.

I personally have no issue if K9 wants to get paid, most RBs don’t even get to a second contract like this one’s $’s could be for him. His stock will never be higher than it is now, and most of these guys don’t even see their 60’s…go get your bag. You’ve got your Super Bowl ring and an MVP trophy from the game…

But seriously, re-signing Walker is the optimal path to take.

It's not the money, it's the continuity with him and the team, in particular him with Charbs.
