Thread was talking about Walker and JSN. But yeah, no way in hell they let Spoon go.

This is why it's hard to win multiple Super Bowls with the same basic team. You have to have a lot of stars to do that, and stars know they are stars. We have always been good about finding receivers and running backs. We'll be fine even if both hit the road.

Agreed. They'll both want to re-set the market, but at least JSN is at the top of the market.
Yep. It's what football players do. Players want that bag; more power to them if someone is willing to pay it.

Can't pay everyone. But also, can't just let everyone go. Players need to be paid. Some guys are going to get huge contracts. Some will be sent packing. Some will bounce. Can't run a team by sending off most of your players who have big contacts coming up.
Going on the cheap is not a smart way to run a football team.

Remember, the only numbers that matter in a contract are the "guaranteed" numbers.

Teams like to give contracts with inflated numbers that never come to fruition.
Jamarr Chase's 40 million per year comes about by having an ungodly amount of money in the final year, that he'll never see.

Key Contract Details
Total Value: $161 Million
Average Salary: $40.25 Million
Total Guaranteed: $112 Million (112/4 = 28 million per year)
Fully Guaranteed at Signing: $74 Million
Duration: 4 years (begins after the 2025 season)
Effective Dates: 2026–2029 (in 2028 his contract will likely be renegotiated)
Radio and TV people love to tout that 40 million per year to create drama and generate clicks. "Oh my god, we won't be able to sign ANYBODY! Click here for more rumor mongering!"

Spoon and JSN should get top dollar from the Seahawks. They are cornerstones to each side of the ball and great team players. While I like K9 at a reasonable price, if you have to choose K9 or for sure keeping JSN, you take JSN. K9 is good but he's nowhere close to elite and has injury history, and for sure i'm ready to let Woolen go too. They can draft guys to replace K9/Woolen, and a lot of a runningbacks success is O-Line, Zabel is a lot more valuable to our running game and future than K9. Also, if you give JSN top dollar now his deal will look cheaper in later years with other WR's setting new markets.

Gotta keep JSN and Spoon, they are elite.

I would love to keep K9 but he has some negatives which include durability, not a great receiver, not a very good pass blocker. And RBs have notorious short shelf lives. If they let anyone walk, it's going to be K9. Upside is we'll have more $$$ to keep others such as Mafe, Jobe, Bryant and maybe Shaheed.

Unfortunately I think Seattle let's K9 take more money elsewhere, he is most likely. Out of JSN, Sammy D, K9.

Probably best, have to pay defense too.

The Hawks have only a few players that 'you can't let walk'.

Imo, there are four (4), in chronological order... Lucas (done), Cross (done), JSN and Spoon. As many have pointed out, contract extensions for JSN and Spoon can happen this off-season... or a year from now... after the Hawks either exercise their 5th-year options or not.

The next tier is 'players you prefer to extend at the right price/cost'. Imo, they are, in preferential order... Uchenna Nwosu (due to expiring contract and $20M cap hit in 2026), Derick Hall, Rashid Shaheed, Kenneth Walker III, Josh Jones and Josh Jobe.

I believe that Woolen, Boye Mafe and Coby Bryant are non-starters for extensions.

Have people actually LOOKED to see how much top WR's are getting right now? Why are we acting like 40 mil is some unheard of, crazy number for a WR? Him and POOka are the next men up. It's a ton of money to pay a WR, but it's not some outlandish "how the hell could he ask that much" type of thing. This isn't unique. This is the NFL. Next man up who is top 3 at his position is almost ALWAYS going to want to be the highest paid. This has been going on for decades.
