Love this hire. And really like Macdonald going outside the comfort zone. Different voices in the building are a very good thing vs group think. Not saying Macdonald would ever allow group think to happen, just that I applaud this move for OC.

I like it!
If he nails it... He'll probably last more than one season with the Hawks!
Then they won't be hiring a new OC after every Super Bowl in the future.

I did not see this coming. Im more than likely wrong about this but in my opinion this could be a bad hire. This guy started off as a defensive coach and switched to offense a couple years ago. Not to mention he is not one of the younger coaches and never called plays before. Not only that he has never been an oc before. I hope im wrong but this i dont see working out. Hire should have been from within the organization.

I trust JS and MM….

Just going to say…

……I’m not so sure about this cat. It does make ‘sense’. I suppose great coaches that come from the ‘trees’ of football start somewhere.

No doubt his experience carry’s forward. Play-calling though, is an entirely different animal.

Trust JS and MM but this hire didn’t excite me as much as some of the positional hires on defense.

Dan Viens said MM has a high regard for coaches that know both sides of the ball and highlightes several top respected coaches that had that pedigree. Even said that Raheem Morris went from D to O and back to D for that specific purpose.

Hawk Blogger talked about the strategy of keeping the core of the O coaching staff in tact and how this supports that.

There's some speculation that coaches might feel slighted...but honestly, if the culture truly permiates coaches and players, its reasonable to think MM/JS had strong communication on the what and why for this move to the O crew and they are bought in.

None of us know the deets, and these are glass 1/2 full perspectives...I've kinda got used to that over the past 2 years.

OMG, Grant Cohen....I can't breathe! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

My apologies for posting this but it's just too hilarious not to.

The absolute delusion by this guy thinking that the gap between his team and ours got smaller just 'cause we hired Fleury is top-tier.

This may have been mentioned in the thread already…he was their run game coordinator as well as TE coach.

I'm fine with it. From the Shanahan/kubiak tree/scheme which was the big ask. 49ers fans seem sad he's gone. Benton staying is huge. First time we've had a competent oline in forever and id like that to continue.

Only concern is lack of play calling experience but as long as he doesn't get darnold killed and protects him like kubiak we are fine.

It not only keeps Benton as the OL coach.

It keeps the others in their position as well, provided that Peetz doesn't decide to bolt or the Raiders don't offer M. Brown a promotion..

Continuity is very important.

Well..then, what was 49ers run game other than CMC?.. that was easy.

Just watched a couple of interviews with him.

My first impression (that doesn’t mean a gotdamn thing) is that he’s a smart cookie.

Kittle saying ‘sad’ makes me grin.

Man…we’re talking JS and MM here. There have been a lot of ‘firsts’ in recent years. We’re MMs first HC spot (and hopefully last). ADs first go at DC…albeit, a reduced version.

We saw what a proven OC (Kubiak) could do vs a first timer and guy way out of his league (Grubb).

But…my glass is half full again. I’ve never felt so confident in a coaching staff and FO.

If he impressed MM, then this man is the guy for the job.
