Have to think they asked Darnold about him too. Mcdonald isn't afraid to shake things up which is quite the opposite from PC.

Promoting TE coaches to OC would probably be my preference if I were in charge of a football team. That, or QB coaches. TE coaches have a grasp of both the run & pass game, and they know the importance of blocking.

Gotta think, MM probably liked his defensive background as well. Then there's the fact that he's been with Shanahan for a long time, and he's been to 2 super bowls with SF.

Can't make a judgement call until we see the offense and how well he calls plays in real time. He can't be worse than Grubb, so there is that

He also played college QB (small program) so he studied offense for the better part of his youth.

Interesting hire. Nothing in Brian Fleury's past to indicate he's an Xs and Os guy and knows how to scheme an offense. But then again, I think the offense is going to try to retain Kubiak's offense from this last season, and they need someone who's more of a leader rather than an offensive genius.

I think we need some of our 49er fans like @94Smith @Weadoption to weigh in with their opinion of Fleury.

Weird.

But, you win the Super Bowl? You get to do whatever you want for at least a year, if not 2.

Kenyon Sadiq? A versatile hybrid dude which Mike likes. Played TE, H-Back, WR. Nice asset in screen plays and as a lead blocker in 12 or 13 packages. Maybe still be there at 32. Built like Marshawn, but quicker and faster.

We copying the rams? Me be ok wit dat.

I doubt he makes it past SF

With Macdonald calling the defense and having Leslie Frazier & John Benton in the building, not to mention the job Jay Harbaugh has done, this hire feels pretty good. The Seahawks have a great staff full of assistants who deserve more recognition and were every bit a part of our Super Bowl win.

Here's to hoping Fleury has great success and stays a while before bolting for a HC position. lol

Well I guess my dream of Ben Johnson promoting himself to Seahawks OC is now crushed.

(Btw the 2024 Lions Offense is what I want for Christmas though it might not fit our personnel)

The man has 5 years under Shanahan and can continue a system similar to what we have. I don’t understand all the hand wringing over hiring internally. Does anyone think John and Mike interviewed internally and said to themselves “well we have a better candidate here but let’s go outside the organization”? Let’s be real. They interviewed guys and picked the guy they felt would be able to run our offense in a way that Macdonald expects.

Will he succeed? It’s definitely too early to tell but I’m rooting for him.

94smith would probably say "bahahahahahahah!!! you suck!!! bhaahahahahah!"

but seriously, I would like to hear his thoughts on this.

One of the few times I've actually WANTED to hear from a Niners fan about anything.
