If he's ready he's ready and they need to find somewhere for him to play everyday. I just don't know where that will be? 1st is Naylor obviously, Crawford won't move from SS, 3rd is Donovan, leaving pretty much just 2nd. There you have Bliss who made the team the start of last year, Young who played a lot there last year, and Rivas who can move around but is probably best at 2nd...

Have Emerson and Young battle it out for 2nd base. Have Bliss and Rivas battle for back up. Infield is crowded. Donovan likely plays 3rd like you said.

I'd like to see him at SS and flip JP to 2nd. I'm not convinced that JP's throwing is good enough. Not convinced about Young either.

That's a good point on JP, several throws he was bailed out by the incredible scoop master Naylor. 2nd base could be a good spot for him.

I think that's the most logical move and many fans have expressed this idea, but baseball... There's still a lot of good 'ol boys archaic 'rules' in baseball that no one seems willing to challenge and this is one of those. Even though JP is not the best player for the position anymore it's basically his until he's gone. Here's a snip from a recent article where Buster Olney talks about being asked about moving JP:

JP Crawford is a leader on this team. I believe he might be the most respected player in that clubhouse. There is a reason why they call him 'Cap.' Your leaders do not get moved for 20-year-olds who have 40 games above high A to their name and have zero big league experience. Your team leaders do not get moved for 20-year-olds with 40 games of experience above high A-ball. There is a hierarchy in baseball, and JP Crawford is at the very top of the Mariners clubhouse hierarchy, and Colt Emerson isn't anywhere close to it. He is going to have to earn his way to the middle of that hierarchy, and then he's going to have to earn his way to the top of the hierarchy, and it is not going to happen over the course of spring training

He's in the 9 spot as far as I know. Kinda weird for your 9 hitter to be called "Cap". If Emerson earns his shot at SS then so be it. Not like JP is a .300 hitter. I like JP but SS isn't a lock it's a position you truly have to earn AND hold down.

Interesting points on Crawford. What would Schneider and Mac do if it was them deciding on SS, especially if let’s say Emerson is playing about equal to Crawford in Spring Training??? 🤔

Colt continues to build all kinds of confidence playing in the minors. There have been near-daily clips of incredible defensive play. And last night, bashes the ball out of the park. Once called up, I think he'll do well on defense, but we'll see how he does at the plate against major league pitchers.

I think his D will for sure keep him in the line up and the Bat will take some time to adjust. I think its going to be like how Cole young has done it.

Excited to see him soon. Cole Young has also been really decent this year as well.

He can platoon between the 3 positions.. get him some playing time, let him get used to the big league, much like Cole did and come back next year knowing what he had to improve upon.

I can’t see Cole Young losing his spot so far this season.

He’s made some great plays and is hitting the ball consistently.
True, but..............we have Dan. Anything is possible, and not in the good way.

And let's be real, JP has been average at best at a SS.

I’ve been saying it all along — Donovan should be the DH when he comes back. Send Leo down and call up Colt to be the everyday third baseman already. Leo isn’t hitting, so we really can’t do any worse.
I also think the Canzone–Raley platoon has run its course.

Especially since Donovan had surgery last year and it seems to be creeping up. DH him for a while he heals up.
He's capable of playing in the outfield too.
