There is no requirement to be US born to play NFL football. About 3 percent of players are international and the NFL actually grants a roster exemption to an international player for every team. Any player that plays for an international league does so because of their inability to qualify for the NFL.

These teams are compromised of the best football players globally. So the winning team is a compilation of the best players in the world. Hence, world champions.

If the NFL gave an expansion team to London and they won a Super Bowl, none of us would have a problem calling them world champions. We wouldn’t be like …”technically they are the best team in the United Kingdom”.

Was Argentina’s World Cup championship not valid because the tournament was void of countries that didn’t field teams?

Baseball has been doing that for 100 years. Yeah, we invited Canada, but I don't see them inviting Japan, Korea, or Cuba to a World Series tournament.
Kibd of ironic it's called world series

She's technically correct. Who are we to assume by winning the Sb we can ornate ourselves as world Champs.

Damn.... debating the wife? I have been married for over 30 years, at this point I can get away with things that a guy would be severely punished for (buying brand new truck with no communication, new Zero Turn Mower when I already have a rider, Jet skis, stuff like that) Heck, I can even debate her dad now without annoying her but debating HER? That just never results in a positive outcome. The real key is to learn the strategy of getting her to come to reality with as little input needed. For example "Oh, wow I used to think %TruthVariable%" Maybe even a response to validate her statement if you know someone else will correct her. The World Champion thing? My unwarranted comment would be "OK, Cool.. now go make my dinner" LOL - RIGHT.

So my wife keeps viciously flaming and raging at me for proclaiming the Seahawks as "World Champions" after our Super Bowl victory.

She says the NFL only has teams in the USA and that the SB is not a world championship.

I try to explain that since this is the highest level of the sport it indeed does serve as a world championship because international prospects would play at the NFL if they were to reach the highest level (an example being our incredible Aussie punter!)

Also most Super Bowl rings literally have "WORLD CHAMPIONS" inscribed on them (see pic of our 48 ring below. most teams get this put on their rings).

So what do you say dot net? Can you settle this debate with my wife for me? Are we world champs or not?

Two thoughts:

What's wrong with ya, debating with your wife? Thou shalt never do that.

Anywhere outside of North America, our "world champions" receive at best a shrug, as football means something different to all of them. Revenue-wise, the NFL is smaller than the combined revenue of European football leagues, let alone the rest of the world. It's like an Indy car champion calling the achievement a world single-seater champion.

The NFL generates over $23 billion in annual revenue, making it the highest-earning sports league in the world. In contrast, no single European football league comes close to matching this figure alone; however, all European football leagues combined generate around $26.3 billion annually, just edging out the NFL in total global revenue.

You should've just agreed with her... and then put a giant "World Champions" banner across the front of your house.

Not to be mean spirited with her assessment but WTF, what else does she think it would take to become the WORLD Champions? ? ?
It came down to the ONLY TWO best teams in the NFL facing off, and the Seahawks came away with a lopsided victory over THE SECOND BEST.

There used to be European teams, they folded. The NFL plays all over the World...

"World Champions" is just a designation for someone or a team that won the championship.

It's not meant to be taken in the literal sense.

I really liked you until that comment lol j/k 😁
It is kinda odd that very few other countries have leagues but I am a football junkie so what do I know
I liked soccer when I was a kid playing it but as I grew up football was by far and away the sport i Really loved

It's a proper name they can call it what they want so technically it's correct but that might not help you in the sack so let her have this lol
