So my wife keeps viciously flaming and raging at me for proclaiming the Seahawks as "World Champions" after our Super Bowl victory.

She says the NFL only has teams in the USA and that the SB is not a world championship.

I try to explain that since this is the highest level of the sport it indeed does serve as a world championship because international prospects would play at the NFL if they were to reach the highest level (an example being our incredible Aussie punter!)

Also most Super Bowl rings literally have "WORLD CHAMPIONS" inscribed on them (see pic of our 48 ring below. most teams get this put on their rings).

So what do you say dot net? Can you settle this debate with my wife for me? Are we world champs or not?

There really is no debate. World champions is reserved for the team that wins whatever the pinnacle tournament is for that sport. That is the Super Bowl for NFL football. If there’s any te across the globe that wants to challenge that then bring them on 😂

Semantics. 🤷‍♂️ I can see the logic behind the argument against, but whatever. We're still the best team.
Yeah I mean no shit that technically it's U.S.-based but who really cares about that except those looking to argue about Semantics actually? I guess some just want to argue for the purpose of arguing?

The NFL is not exclusive to Americans. It just so happens that the NFL teams are all based in the US.

Also, this is America, and we're allowed by law to say shit.

Baseball has been doing that for 100 years. Yeah, we invited Canada, but I don't see them inviting Japan, Korea, or Cuba to a World Series tournament.

Kind of ironic it's called world series.

Wouldn't it sound strange, though, to say "the United States National Football League Champions" or something like that relegating the league and sport only to this country? It would imply that there are other professional leagues that even could compete with this one.

There is the CFL and a few minor leagues in other countries and indoor/arena leagues. But nothing like this.

Maybe Canadians might say we are not "World" Champions on the basis that football is not hockey...
But we are indeed World Champions until someone in the next Super Bowl knocks is off our lofty perch.
I wouldn't argue with her though, the smart ones know the wife is always right. lol

How long have you been married? No matter how wrong your wife may be, she is always right!

This sounds like the old Dr. Phil thing:

"Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?"
