He was viewed as a LUXURY when we acquired him considering that we had JSN/Kupp/Tory Horton.

Then Tory got hurt and was out for the year and all of a sudden that Luxury became an absolute necessity.

I don't know. Tory's last game was on November 2nd. That's when he suffered his shin injury. Seattle traded for Shaheed on November 4th.

The Shaheed trade was the Percy Harvin trade done right. Schneider learned from this previous mistake.

In the Percy Harvin trade, the Seahawks gave up a lot of draft capital (a 1st, a 3rd and a 7th) for a high-paid game-changing WR/return specialist who was a terrible locker room disaster.

In the Rashid Shaheed trade, Schneider traded a 4th and a 5th to get a WR/return specialist who was already well-known by the OC.

And Shaheed has had far more impact on this season than Harvin ever had on the 2013 team.
Don't forget, Bevell was the Vikings OC when Harvin was drafted and his rookie year in Minny. Maybe the picture was not as clear as the Shaheed situation, but I always thought he should have known better.

I think they knew he had issues, but I also think it was a Pete Carroll project, figured he could straighten the guy out.

You don't judge the impact of a player like Shaheed by stats. It's ok if the other team are focusing on him to reduce his impact. This type of player stretches the field and without that you don't have an underneath to exploit. It's very difficult to have 10+ play drives down the field without such a threat. This season would have been very different without a Shaheed or a Horton, and keeping these types healthy is difficult.

Just to temper expectations: Spotrac estimated Shaheed's market value at $14M per season BEFORE the trade. He might be valued at $22M+ when that site revisits its valuations before March.

Feb 11 2026 edit: The Spotrac estimate claim was incorrect. Spotrac estimated Shaheed's value at $8.1M prior to the trade and at $14.1M at the end of the season.

So 3yr for 60m 38m guaranteed. The rest on bumps.

Can always replace Shaheed with a cheap Lockett 1 year deal.

Guessing Kupp retires if he gets a ring. We use that money on Shaheed and draft another receiver.

What makes you think Kupp will retire with another ring?

He's only 32 and it is his first season with the seahawks. He signed a 3 year deal.

I think he's a cap casualty otherwise and his role has diminished.

At the time, though, we didn't know the extent of Tory's injury.

We thought it was just bumps and bruises and he'd be back.

I guess now we know why JS gave up two draft picks to get him.

You saw his impact last night. Not so much the long toss to him (which had its own impacts) but the respect he gets in the kick offs. With him back there you are almost guaranteed starting on the 35 because nobody wants to deal with him. That could be as much as 30-50 yards a game EXTRA just on kick offs. That adds up. Anyhow, love the guy. He's a keeper if at all possible

I think if they have more deep crossing routes for Shaheed or deep plays to attack the back end of the defense it will
help everyone. Seattle needs to utilize him more. I think if they do New England will have a difficult time covering
Kupp and Njigba and the Hawks will run and fly away from them.

Seahawks seem to like their 3 TEs they suited for the NFC CG (Barner, Saubert, Kallerup) with all 3 under contract for 2026. And, if Kubiak moves on and if new OC doesn’t utilize a FB as much I feel Outz would be converted more into a H-Back type role. In-line TE but comes in as blocker for the RB in certain situations.

So Arroyo is kind of the odd man out but he already plays more like a big WR. So maybe Seahawks already have a potential future WR in Arroyo already in development and on roster.

Imagine him playing 20-30 pounds lighter (6’5, 225-235) and being able run in the 4.4s with soft hands and smooth athleticism and then developing his TE experience into being a monster blocker vs DBs.

If kubiak moves on i think they will just keep pulling from the Shanahan tree so that they don't have to change the scheme too much.
