Probably don’t need to say this but I feel compelled.

Texas Weather is what is preventing me from making the trip.
Crazy chain of events.

My daughter is a PA (physician assistant) and she’s a Captain in the National Guard.
She has Drill this week, and her child care (live in Nanny) had unexpected issues at the worst moment.
My wife went to their house for the week to care for our Granddaughter.

That leaves me at home to care for my mother in law, she’s 85 and generally does very well, but she doesn’t drive. She’s a nervous wreck if things unexpected happen.
We are her only help.

This weekend here in Texas we have an Ice storm heading our way, and our power is very likely going to be unreliable.
I have a generator wired to the house but the MIL can’t manage and keep up with it.
Wife won’t be here, I can’t risk leaving the Ole girl here alone in the event this weather event gets bad.

It’s unfortunate but “Family First”, I’ll be there in spirit.
Sorry you can't make it. I lived in East Texas, then North Texas, for 36 years and have two ice-road totaled cars to show for it. I'd rather drive over the Rockies during a snow storm (I've done it), than a two-lane highway in North Texas during an ice storm.

Yea it’s bad here in the Houston area.
Not only is there the obvious danger of sheet ice on the surfaces, but it happens so rarely here you have 5-10 years worth of new drivers that have never been there.

I lived in Houston for a few years and we never had ice; however, I spent the night in the eye of Hurricane Alicia. All of my iced-road Texas experiences were in the Dallas area.
